voestalpine Group Employees – Highlights „

At almost 54%, the majority of the roughly 46,500 voestalpine employees are working at international locations.

With almost 1,300 young people, of whom about 800 are being trained at Austrian sites, voestalpine is the largest industrial trainer of apprentices in Austria.

The employees currently hold approximately 13% of the shares in ”their“ company—thus, they represent the second largest core shareholder of voestalpine AG.

The voestalpine model of the employee shareholding scheme has been expanded to Group companies in Great Britain, Germany, Poland, Belgium, and the Netherlands.

Currently, 150 R&D projects are ongoing worldwide with science partners (universities, university research institutes, competence centers, and CD laboratories).

At EUR 132 million, the research and development budget in the current business year 2012/13 is at a new record high.

„

According to EU statistics, the voestalpine Group is the most researchintensive industrial enterprise in Austria by far.

„

Focus of R&D is on the mobility and energy sectors: in addition to the further development of lightweight materials for the automobile and consumer goods industries, the focus is on technologically highly sophisticated applications in the energy sector, such as high-temperature materials, which enable significantly higher efficiency in power plant turbines and aircraft engines than was previously possible. Another focal point is innovation in the renewable energy sector.

Benchmark in Europe with regard to energy and raw materials efficiency as well as environmental compatibility.

„

Ongoing improvement of environmental parameters of production plants and processes.

„

After expansion and updating of voestalpine’s own power plants in Linz and Donawitz, the largest sites are practically self-sufficient as far as electricity is concerned.

„

Role model for recycling as well; about 64% of accumulated waste and other recyclable materials are recycled back into the production process. The recycling rate (internal and external) is currently at about 81%*.

„

All voestalpine production sites have environmental management systems conforming with ISO 14001.
