a focal point for education in the centre city of Rotterdam | public realm | graduation studio vissarion naoum mentors: nicola marzot, susanne komossa, jelke d.fokkinga

This work is part of the Public building studio. Especially has to do with the specialization of it, the Public realm. The block is located in rotterdam city / in the Netherlands. In general the whole idea is how to connect a specific part of the city, and to connect it with the surroundings. The whole idea has to do with the relation of the block in the city centre of rotterdam, and general with the rest of the city.First, research has been done with the city centre according to the small events. Apart from the events, the city center can be told that is working in a 24h basis. At the end, we realized that the specific block we have been proposed, apart from the small events, functions that are offering, the city centre lucks of an academic education. For this instance, the proposion has been made, by making a small university campus for Art studies. The campus in the block, consist of a University, student housing, Library, and some Offices related to them, such as art studios / architectural offices. Furthermore, the study consist of the connections of the block with the surrounding ones and especially Lijnbaan. My proposion has to do with one part of the whole block. The final purpose has been studied with a creation of a library, student housing and offices/studios, and finally with the last touch the skybar. The circulation of the whole system has been studied too so as to have a better connection of the functions together and seperatelly. Characteristic is the connection of the ground floor with the skybar connected on the outter space of the building through all the functions. The whole construction is made by concreet, and for facade panels of corten steel, and to some parts steel perforated. The study has been also made according to the connectons of the public, privet and semi private spaces of the building. Furthermore, the position of sun , the needs for shadows, have been studied too, so the whole building system can have a better sustanability.

Architectural competition for the reconstruction of traditional building and landscaping in Promiri Pelion with suistanable principles. The competition aims to create a space that will host events in the cycle of actions BULB "Energy Campaign" in Promiri Pelion/ Greece.

- 1.10

The aim of the proposal is to create a 'hub' movements and connections between different functions, in other words, to enhance mobility and connectivity between modes and the simultaneous use of bioclimatic applications. The design began with the location of the required program (spaces, guest rooms, bathrooms, area lodging, dining area) with bioclimatic and functional way to the existing building. Authority was the creation of a zone-making that runs the existing building and by extension the whole plot, giving a direct link to both functions of the existing building with the open space in two directions, one south and one west and between functions hosts. The reference design to the rest of the site, followed a strategy of creating multiple alignments - links throughout it. Taking into account the existing vegetation (trees) and defining the space around them as individual "nodal" points "hugs" extra set up imaginary alignments from them and which grow along the plot. With the shift - Quote of these alignments, as shown on the charts, multiple alignments were created hyperlinks that guide the organization and layout of proposed sites throughout the land. These zones - are the main routes connecting elements and organizing all the functions on the site. The new unit houses the showroom - workshop, office, store room and wc placed in the center of the site that it is easily accessible and directly connected with other functions, and is the core of the BULB-LAB. The design began with the assumption that a space is placed in a simple square shape. The routes - passageways described above permeate the building at the option of creating openings andpassages in it giving the final shape of the total volume and the location of closed and open spaces and openings.

The bands - alignments used to import a function of exposure, in another, the workshop (workshop). In selected areas, they act as rails on which installed sliding panels. Moving panels are able to collect points in order to operate the space as a laboratory will only be placed in space to parallel operation report. The large opening of the new building enables direct contact and transfer of the workshop and exhibition panels of the outdoor area of the site. This area is characterized by easy accessibility, multi-functionality and direct connectivity to the open area of the site. In the northern part of the plot, generated levels to be directly connected to the second floor of the existing building with the open space and direct connection to the church considering it as a public space in which the connection will help to link the site with the rest of the settlement. The space scenes in the southernpart of the plot while remaining open space is left free to expand its internal operations and develop other activities. The entrance of the site is located in the eastern boundary of the horizontal axis - the corridor between two buildings in order to -1.00 facilitate the orientation and incoming access to this user or visitor.

| bulb lab | architectural competition in traditional enviroment / pelion / Greece design team | archiv+ vissarion naoum , eleni boubari, sofia xanthopoulou, thodoris dounas, natalia iliadi

Suistanable design The location of all functions, as mentioned above are made using bioclimatic way. More specifically, the public spaces in both existing and new building placed in the South to have the maximum solar gains during the winter. Also the new building is developed only at ground level so as not to impede solar gains and natural lighting to the existing.Accordingly it has been attempted auxiliary spaces and spaces of movement, areas with less stringent requirements placed on the north. They have created yet atrium spaces protected from the east southeast wind t of winter, to allow traffic in both plot and between two buildings during the winter months. For the summer months, the south windows are protected either by the existing planting of land or pergolas. Because the prevailing wind direction is east in the summer, the air enters the existing building through the east opening on the 1st floor, running the stairs and out through the main entrance floor of the south due to vacuum cooling natural public places during overnight. The new building also cooled by the east window with rotating frames, which can accelerate and direct the air. Also removable panels that serve the reports can also be used to protect the tents from the low eastern sun in the early morning hours.

Protospace 4.0 will replace the former protospace of the faculty, that was destroyed by the fire and remains unused. Based on a set of parameters, a script was generated for all uilding elements including the details. The final shape is defined by a number of curved lines, “power lines. The pavilion is made of hexagonal locks of EPS, (expanded polusturene, styrofoam) and have a size of about 2.5m x 1.5m x 0.5m. the elements are all different concerning form and are milled with a 5-axis machine. The elements are finished with a sprayed coating of polyurea. Concerning desing and production, ONL (Oosterhuis, Lenard) is also involved.

“Piraeus Tower 2010 – Changing the Face/Façades Reformation” What was the competition for A Tall Building at the port of Piraeus – the Piraeus Municipality belongs in the urban area of the city of Athens which has a population of 4,000,000 – is abandoned for more than 30 years. It is 22-storey building, 84 m. tall and it is known as “Piraeus Tower”. It is often called as “the sleeping giant” due to its abandonment. The only tower of the area is “sleeping” in one of the bigger ports of Mediterranean that presents a dynamic growth the last decades. There is a challenge, therefore, in order for the Tower to become a landmark at the port of Piraeus and to be highlighted, through its modernisation, as one of the most important architectural buildings not only for the city of Piraeus but for the whole city of Athens. The Proposal The challenge is focused to the reconstruction of the external façade of the building. The façade interventions regard the type and dimension of the proposed constructions either in contact or at a distance from the existing curtain walls. The interventions may be surfacings, facades renovations, constructions of every type and size, or all of them. The proposed interventions may be extended over the building within the ground boundary without, though, any height limitation. Every vertical or horizontal construction cannot be occupied by indoor spaces. The building indoor space is still in the existing outline. The frame of the building shall be kept without any intervention. However, additiona support provisions shall be introduced where appropriate and necessary. Nowadays, most of the metropolitan centres have universally turned into both business development centres and touristic “resorts”, due to the construction of many new interesting buildings, in an architectural aspect. However the urban anarchy, and -metaphorically speaking- a condition of “decay” are the principal characteristics of Piraeus, -an area in Greece which accommodates the biggest port of the country. The lack of green areas, open public spaces and landmarks are some of the major problems here. Piraeus’ Tower – the so called “silent giant” of the port,- is probably the most significant building of the area. However, despite of its imposing presentation, this structure has been abandoned for several years. Thus the aim of this project is to turn this building to a dynamic urban observation post not only for its users but for all the citizens. The existing structure of the building is not changed but is plated with glass, while a continuous ramp, with 1.50 width, runs through each one of the floors. A metallic grid is placed on the perimeter of the building, adding in that way 5meters in each side. Balconieswithalengthof 5, 7.50, or 10 meters are coming out from the gaps of the grid shaping an unspecific pattern. Shadings with 40cm width are placed on specific locations in order to cast shadows over the building during the summer. Vertical led panels are suspended at the edge of the balconies, which transmit with the use of projections those peoples’ movements who pass by the building every day. Cameras imprint peoples’ movements who pass perimetrically by the building, and render them on the panels as black figures in a white background. However, when somebody is moving on the balconies, she sets in motion micro-sensors that change the white color to green one. Thus the building’s façade is constantly redefined and in that way is converted to an observation post that records the urban activities. The new escalator is located on the north-west side of the building in a distance of 5 meters, and is constructed by glass. The escalator and the ramp form together the linkage between all the balconies. The basement is used as parking. The entranced will be located on the ground floor. The 1st and 2nd floor will accommodate stores. A cafeteria is going to be located on the 3rd floor. At that point there will be an exit to a public open green square which will be cited on the upper part of 2nds floor roof. From 4th to 11th floor and from 14th to 19th there will be offices. The 12th and 13th floors are unified. Several parts of the slabs are subtracted and some of them are turned into an internal park, while the 20th and 21st floors are going to accommodate a restaurant which will be end at the terrace of the building. Finally the 22nd and the 2nd basement there will be all the electromechanical facilities. Materials: The new glassed envelope of the building is going to be structured with DuPont Sentry Glass. The same material will be also used to the external escalator. The external side of the beams of the building will be coated with Corian, which is going to be also the material that will covered the floors of the balconies. The same material will be used also for the ramps. The basic structure of the ramps is going to be metal. The shades will be wooden. The roof of the 2nd floor will firstly be insulated with the Tyvek system and then will be planted, reducing in that way the thermal losses at the shopping area. In that way it will be easier for the roof to be transformed from a useless area to an over-ground urban park. This proposal is worthy a second chancedue to including the building in the urban landscape through the design proposal and highlighting it as the landmark for the wider area by creating a living building through the projection of human movement on its facades. We used innovative materials and also we focused at the interaction between the building's private space and the urban surroundings

It is intended to transform the old hall of the Athens Stock Exchange trading floor in Sophocleous (dealing room) Available Management Directorate and the National Bank Money Market. The building is a monument of the interwar building management and operation we respond to this challenge with profound morphological differentiation both in level and in building. The structure of the building containing, as a synthetic model, corresponding to an orthonormal logical analytical approach. Even if it finally appears as a continuous shell, in substance produced by individual components. The content structure instead appears as a single formation - object. The challenge of internal or external pressures of prescribed powers, alter the entire shape overall.

The building is trying to create a new treaty in motion both the geometry in plan and with the formation of the shell. Successive areas of floors, twisted together, creating a complex system full, empty and semi-open spaces. This variety in the shape of faces, strengthen the function of the bioclimatic envelope which is formed by inserting green volumes in empty spaces resulting from the interweaving of the bands. The existence of archaeological finds, the foundations of the Byzantine walls of Istanbul, forcing the building to fall to the ground floor and the floor to explain the findings. At the same time creates a square planted at the excavations, which then serves as the adjacent main square.

The study concerns the restoration and the reforamation of Hebrew town - section of barbouta in Veroia, a unique model of clsoed triangular parisin Europe, aiming at its upgrade and resence in everyday life of the city. Historical and urban elemebts of the city and the particular parish are recorded in the study, followed by the enlisting of all buildings in Barbouta, according to architectural style, current condition, previous interventions and uses, initial and current. This information is docimented in cards, for each building, and then is placed in regional plans, at a scale of 1.200, so that we have a complete view of the area. The study includes four groups of styles. The first one concerns the imprinting of the region in beginning of 1980’s. In this case the plans were designied, The second group includes imprintings for the current condition, the third one consist of documentation of the current condition and the last group the proposal itself. The proposal consist of 2 parts, the first part concerns the parish as a whole and includes suggestions for the utilisation of the buildings, and refinement of the shared spaces. The second part includes the studi of the restoration and the reuse of specified buildings and the designing of new buildings in empty lots.

| Archtectural studio V | Airport in Nea Aghialos / Volos

Airport as a modern architectural experience, has been in existence only for a few decades. The complexity and diversity of new service need, the incoporation of various uses such as hotels, cinemas, shiping areas, gardens and churches into airport building programs, the need for extralinking of various parts of an airportt by track guided transport sstems, the dramatic rise in the number of air passangers, changes in techniques and construction methods, and changes in the means of transports themselves, have all led to a massive increase in the size of ariport facilities. At the same time, these factors have severally challenged architectural designfor inventing new solutions, particularly in respect of folimen - hanging. However amidst the flix of design proposals and verbal interiors a new architectural issue has emerged concerning the form of airports in the 21st century. This very little research issue consistutes the core of this course and opens the wa to new interpretations and design approaches

The effort is made with the aim to use the wall in order to have more uses with ourselves and in order to have more response with its uses. So the one word we can make use such as communication between rooms of “windows”,body contact on it, - chairs and many other ones. This is how i five these surfaces of the wall creating smaller ones which ca be transfered or moved. The production of these smaller surfaces in free and imaginative.
