VISION «Promprylad. Renovation» is a project that provides the creation of a new type of innovative platform on the Promprylad factory site. It works at the intersection of such functions as the modern economy, contemporary art, informal education, and urbanism. As a platform for approbation and dissemination of knowledge as well as for qualitative practical experience among specialists, communities, and companies, «Promprylad. Renovation» aims to build creative potential in the city in order to bring the region to a dynamic development.

SUBCARPATHIA The Ivano-Frankivsk Region (Subcarpathia, also referred to as Prykarpattia, formerly Stanislau) is one of the most densely populated and long-time developed regions of Ukraine. The oblast is located in the southwest of Ukraine and borders with Lviv, Ternopil, Chernivtsi and Transcarpathian region. Part of the borderline borders on Romania. The frontier with Transcarpathia was also a border - with Hungary, then with Czechoslovakia.

According to Consolidated Financial Statements, 1850.3 people have visited Subcarpathia in 2015. Tourist Services are provided by 164 tourist and recreational establishments, including 98 hotels, 159 tour operators, and agents, about 700 rural dwellings, more than 120 museums. There are more than 30 ski lifts in the region.

CITY Ivano-Frankivsk is an administrative, economic and cultural center of the Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast and Ukrainian Subcarpathia. It is a city that carries the rich historical culture, ancient traditions, extraordinary artistic life and a dynamic economy. The regional center is located in the intersection of two rivers: Bystrytsia of Nadvirna and Bystrytsia of Solotvyn. A good geographical location brings Ivano-Frankivsk closer to the EU member states and creates favorable conditions for multilateral development.

HISTORY

The city was founded in 1662 and named as Stanislav. It happened when the civilian settlement and fortress received the Magdeburg law, which allowed the Ukrainian-Polish, Jewish and Armenian communities to establish their own local governments. The city was part of Poland, Hungary, and the Soviet Union at different times. During the period from January to May 1919, it was the capital of the West Ukrainian People’s Republic (ZUNR). In 1939 it was renamed as Stanislav. After the Second World War, the city turned into an industrial center with numerous industrial objects, cultural institutions, education, medicine and banking institutions. In 1962, Stanislav was renamed as Ivano-Frankivsk.

The town was founded on the site of two villages: Zabolottya and Knyagynyn. The first mention of the village of Zabolottya was dated back to 1437. Historically, the central trading route from Lviv to the mouth of the Danube passed through this place.

Krakow warleader and hetman Stanislaw «Rewera» Potocki has bought the land of the current city, with the purpose of constructing a fortress against the raids of the Tatars and its reference point on the Galician land.

The city emerged from a private fortress, which was established in 1662 by the Polish nobleman Andrzej Potocki and named in honor of his son Stanislav (according to other information - his father). In the same year, Stanislav sought the Magdeburg Law.

The first city hall was built in 1672, but because of the unreliability Pototsky ordered to disassemble and build a new town hall in 1695. In 1676, Turks and Tatars stood under the walls of Stanislav, burned and destroyed its eastern and southern outskirts, but could not take the fortress by storm. They devastated Galich while retreating.

In 1866 the railway was built through Stanislaviv. At the same time, workshops that started the engineering industry in the city were founded, and grew rapidly with the branching of the railway network. Subsequently, the workshops became a steam locomotive plant (now locomotive repair services). The building of the station became the first electrified building in the city.

As a result of the fire in 1868 almost half the city burned out, namely 260 houses. Old church paintings, town hall, post office, court, theater, shops, workshops, wooden houses, mostly in the central part of the city got burned in a fire.

In the second half of the XIX-early XX centuries, city ​​ development has expanded. In the center, new, mostly threestoried residential, state and public buildings were built.

In December 1929, the construction of the 4th Town Hall was started on the plan of architect Stanislav Treli. The town hall was finally completed in 1939.

The third city hall was built In 1871.

BICYCLE INFRASTRUCTURE

Ivano-Frankivsk is one of the most cycle-friendly city in Ukraine. Over the past three years, the number of cyclists has been gradually increasing. CYCLING PROGRAM

The Program for the Development of Bicycle Infrastructure and the Promotion of Cycling for 2015-2020 were launched in IvanoFrankivsk. The program has three phases: 2015-2016, 2017-2018 and 2019-2020. The goal of the program is to increase cycling rates by over 15 percent and create a cycling infrastructure to connect all the areas of the city with the central part and recreational areas. It is planned to build more than 102 kilometers of bicycle paths in total.

Ivano-Frankivsk is the only Ukrainian city that forges ahead with the construction and outstrips the capital city of Kiev. In the 1990s, thousands of people left the city to work abroad. Until the mid-2000s labor migrants had accumulated sufficient capital for the purchase of apartment. Looking at Ivano-Frankivsk through the prism of tourism potential, it can be noted that the city works rather like a transfer point than a tourist center. Apartments in the houses of the old housing stock of IvanoFrankivsk are not common to rent. Brokers note that the interest of housing in new buildings has intensified in the past few years. RECREATION

The main place of recreation of the city’s inhabitants is Shevchenko Park, which includes lakes and boat station. This is the largest green area in the city. There is the landscaped coastal zone of city lakes, which organically complements the central recreation area of ​​the city. The city is divided into three planning units by Bystrytsia of Solotvyn and Bystrytsia of Nadvirna rivers. The embankment of Bystrytsia of Solotvyn river is an excellent place to rest. There is a significant amount of landscaped areas along the dam on the area from the Karmelyuk street to the Galitskaya street.

PROMPRYLAD The history of the plant began more than 100 years ago while merging of three companies - the firm «Kraj» (1905), V. Major’s wagon-mechanical factory (1914) and the firm «Fama»(1920). In Soviet times the plant specialized in instrument making, manufactured automatic and industrial gas counters of the rotary type. Later the plant become established as a producer of consumer goods - umbrellas, car grates, cars details, etc.

We meet people who worked at the plant for half a century, who still working or spent a few years of life there. We talk about the plant and human fates to understand how it was before, how it became what it is now and what it can be in the future.

— Our dynasty was about 15 people at the factory. Everyone joined. The first one was my husband’s relative. (...)Then me. Then three of our children came. My daughter began to work after graduation. She married the man from the factory. We used to go to work all together every morning. We used to love the factory», says economist Promprylad Olga Dmitrievna Parfan.

«Machinery loves keeping, cleaning, and lubrication», - a winged statement from engineer Mark Putty, head of the design bureau, who worked at the plant up until 1990. I started as a Locksmith’s student at the factory. — At that factory, I started as a student of a locksmith. Mykola Grinishin deals with electric resistance welding. He’s joined the factory thirty-six years ago, and now he is worried about the possibility of the need to search for a new job before retirement.

After demobilization, he returned to Ukraine and soon after began working in the factory. It was the time when he first started to acquire basic skills in the current specialty of the thread-grinder. — It’s a pity that I could transfer the gained experiences to new staff, but there are no young people to share with, Stepan Ivanovich sighs. - In order to invite them, you must give the appropriate salary. So I’m waiting for recruiting new staff. And I’m eager to share experiences and approaches with them.

BUSINESS MODEL

Promprylad blends economic and social priorities into its core business. As both an opportunity for investment and a channel for civic engagement, Promprylad’s business model balances the two. Promprylad is an investment. Its financial and legal model links impact investing and crowdfunding and balances between capital return on investment (ROI) and social return on investment (SROI). The heart of the initiative is in a repurposed factory building in the center of Ivano-Frankivsk. The Promprylad journey began in September 2017, with the launch of the factory’s revitalization process into an integral and stable eco-system that fits well into and provides benefits for the city/region/country.
