SUMMARY: I have recently finished my third year of BSc (Hons) Architectural Studies degree at the University of Strathclyde and I am strongly interested to take an internship in your company. During my studies at Strathclyde, I had a highly demanding curriculum, so I had to organise my time properly and push myself beyond my limits to achieve excellent results and to meet all deadlines. This not only increased my ambition and determination to self-development but allowed me to expand my academic knowledge and technical skillset. Through experimenting with different drawing and visualisation means in the projects, I was able to produce engaging and coherent narratives and bring my design concepts into a detailed piece of work. Outside the university, I am constantly searching for events related to Architecture where I can put the skills gained into practice. Such were the One Architecture Week that took place in Bulgaria and the Architectural Fringe in Scotland. Being a part of the organisational team as a volunteer, I learned a lot about the improvement of the urban environment in favour of the residents and our responsibilities to nature and energy resources. My curiosity to see how an investment project is being realised practically was eager when I undertook an internship in a company providing survey and consulting services, designing investment projects, and urban planning schemes. There I had the opportunity to monitor architectural surveys of a residential building and business premises. Moreover, I gained some work habits and became part of the team. The tasks given taught me to take criticism and laid solid foundations in using programs such as AutoCAD, Sketch Up, Photoshop, etc. which I later continued to use and develop at the university. With my practical approach to problem-solving and a drive to see things through to completion, I was able to work well from my own initiative and also as part of a team. Through my most recent work experience as a Senior Helpdesk Administrator, I could put all those skills into practice and ensure that the needs of the customers were constantly met by building and maintaining relationships with outsourced contractors. Moreover, I was able to learn how to work under high volumes of pressure and provide an effective and emergency service to all the partners we were working with.

Looked from the outside, the design would compliment the natural scenery and contribute to the atmosphere of the urban park. Almost invisible from the street, the building opens up as a huge and welcoming hug towards the river, giving a sneak peek what would be happening inside. House of RE- would not only serve as the traditional performance space, but it would be a place where people could experience, learn and take part in the recycling process of old garments. It would acknowledge everyone stepping into its doors that it takes many efforts and only through collaboration between the main public and the creator, a significant change would be accomplished. While presenting it in a fun and interesting way, it would address fast-fashion and consumer problems and encourage people take part in the re-cycling process and think more about the environment.

GF fully corresponds to the context of the busy Argyle street with being all for commercial use. Given the opportunity to have their studios and shops at ground level, users would have their work easily available to the public.

Being at the corner and fully accessible from all parts of the new extensions, the existing building gives the ideal opportunity to place all working facilities and would create a centralised hub for residents. Existing stairs would be used for the main circulation which would lead to the work areas and the open access corridors going to the flats.

The library of travel literature would represent a journey by itself with having series of spaces and different ways to approach them through several thresholds. To achieve that, it would be constructed by a number of structurally individual cloisters all connected by the main stair at the centre. The separation of the main mass and the shape of the sections are derived from the program and accommodation of all services.

PLANS AND PROGRAM . 28 . St Andrews Library Sailing Club . 2020

When it comes to the overall form of the building, it is a series of cubic forms with pitched roofs. The extension is aiming to complement the already existing one and not to overpower it. However, it is still clear in plan and elevation that the primary space is situated in the new building. The walkway successfully connects the coast paths, leading them to the entrance of the building and continuing to the road. The idea behind this is to naturally move the people flow from the main road where there aren’t any pedestrian walkways and it is not really pleasing.

The Community Hall in St Andrews would not only be a place for spectatorship, it is a place where people could enjoy their time, escape from the hustle and bustle and even relax for a bit. The cosy feeling of it and the way that it sits in the surroundings, make it the best place where you could go and watch a game on Saturday afternoon with friends. It is urban, it is casual, it is for people.

Main focus on the group project was to design a small structure suitable for two people which had to be built after. The theme of the design was TEXTURE. Working with material constraints and a given budget we decided to create a spiral sitting space which enables the individual to appreciate the inner strength and the nature of the material. We created a building plan with the different fixings and a work strategy which enabled us to work fast and efficient when arrived on site.
