C/N HOUSE

This two apartment complex was designed by my colleague, Antonino Cucinella, and I for our “Enviromental Design class. The objective was to be able to create a structure that could be inserted on top of a flight of steps that had a diffrence in height of over 7 meters. We came to a solution of inserting two simple rectangular structures that were held inbetween by a reticular system.

IN THE CORNERS OF THE COUNTRYSIDE

The objective of my “Architectual Design V-Studio” was the expantion of the fruit market situatied in Porto Empedocle, Sicily, Italy. My inspiration for this project all started with interpreting ancient traditions of sicilian farmers, whom were constructing on the corners of the countryside in order to hold more crops in their plantation. With this idea in mind, I elaborated my project, positioning the fruit market at the lower south-west section of the site, and the recreational areas such as, hotels, pools, spa’s, at the north-east side. I elaborated and interpretaded the site as if it were a square, designing a diagonal line which represents the route the visitor will take to enter and experience the vineyard and olive grove.

A NURSERY IN RABATO

The objective of my “Architectual Design III-Studio was the creation of a nursery school in a local neighborhood in Argrigento, called Rabato. The topagrofy of the site set the method of design. Being on a hill side, I designed the nursery school on various levels, and connected them to each other by ramps and stairs. My decision was to create five diffrent classrooms for the diffrent age groups, all that circulated around an open courtyard which rappresents the apex of this design. This area was created to give space for the young children to play and observe nature. The whole project is based on the exploration of different areas of the school that are connected by open and closed spaces.

Competitions:

Pachira During my internship at Dalpos and Integrators, situated in Syracuse, New York, I participated in the “Architecture at Zero design competition. The objective of this competition was to design 800 student dorms for the ampliation of the San Francisco State University campus. My design was based on the intersection of rectangular structures on four diffrent levels, staggered in between one another to be able to use the roof spaces for outdoor activities.
