EXPLORE THE MALVERNS A breath of fresh air – where Culture, Heritage and Nature come together. Other attractions in the area range from historic properties such as Croome, Witley Court & Gardens, the Elgar Birthplace Museum to vineyards and spa facilities. The Elgar Trail and the Teme Valley Trail offer the visitor opportunities to take in the inspirational English countryside.
Escape to a landscape untouched by time. Malvern, once described as ‘middle England personified’ offers a wide range of things to see and do. The Malvern Hills extend for nine miles, offering ideal walking conditions and spectacular views stretching to the Cotswolds and the Welsh Marches. The area has inspired many great artists such as English composer Sir Edward Elgar and famed authors W.H. Auden, C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien. Malvern is also the home of the 11th century Great Malvern Priory, the Morgan Motor Company and the source of the world renowned Malvern Spring Water. Whether in Malvern, Upton upon Severn or Tenbury Wells there is something for everyone, from guided walks and trails to gardens, exploring history at the heritage centres and local museums, premier theatre or just relaxing in a health spa.
A hub for events, Malvern is home to the Three Counties Showground as well as the Malvern Theatres, famous for its programme of top touring drama and musicals. EXPLORE NORTH WORCESTERSHIRE Visit North Worcestershire’s attractions, the fine towns and parks of Redditch, Bromsgrove, Kidderminster, Stourport-on-Severn and Bewdley, surrounding villages and wonderful countryside. North of Bromsgrove, Wythall’s Transport Museum offers fine examples of buses and battery electric vehicles, plus a miniature steam railway (operating selected days).
Museum. Kidderminster is home to the Railway Museum, 16 mile Severn Valley Railway and the UK’s only Museum of Carpet. From there, take in fine woodland and scenic beauty at Arley and Bodenham Arboretums and in the Wyre Forest, where outdoor lovers can walk, horse-ride and cycle or enjoy a Go Ape high wire tree top experience. Close by, animal and amusement ride lovers must visit West Midland Safari Park, for an all-weather 4 mile safari and fun day out.
In Redditch, visit Forge Mill Needle Museum, to learn how 90% of the world’s needles were once produced in the town and the adjacent ruins of medieval Bordesley Abbey. Move west to Avoncroft Museum, England’s first open air collection of historic buildings and southwest to Hanbury Hall (National Trust) and close to it, the Jinney Ring Craft Centre, to wonder at craftspeople working in their own individual businesses.
Finally, Stourport-on-Severn, is a perfect river and canal side setting to relax offering open green space, amusements, boat hire, river cruises, fairground rides, skate park, paddling pool and other entertainment suitable for all ages. EXPLORE WYCHAVON The picturesque district of Wychavon spans from the Cotswold village of Broadway and the Vale of Evesham in the south to the salt heritage of Droitwich Spa in the North. The magnificent natural environment is complemented by built influences from Georgians, Victorians and even Medieval and Roman times. In the springtime, the Vale of Evesham is adorned with blossom. Hillsides rising from the Avon shimmer with plum white and apple pink, and country lanes deliver views into orchards behind the damson trees traditionally planted in hedgerows to protect the main fruit from the wind. This is the perfect occasion to explore the 45 mile AA signed Blossom Trail by car, coach or bicycle, to appreciate the views across the Vale and eat in a local pub or restaurant. The British Asparagus Festival in the Vale of Evesham runs from St George’s Day, the 23 April through until Midsummers Day on the 21 June, so time your visit to experience the sights and scents of the blossom, unique events, festivals and the best local produce in town and village pubs and restaurants.
If spring is for the sight and scent, then August is for the taste, as Pershore wraps itself in purple for its Plum Festival. The Bank Holiday weekend sees thousands of plummy devotees descend on the town to appreciate the fruit at this multi award-winning event. September sees Salt Fest in Droitwich Spa celebrating the saline heritage going back to the Roman times. The town is a hive of activity over the weekend, with a craft and farmers’ market, music and entertainment, and of course the Romans all assisting in delivering a colourful, vibrant event.

The Severn Valley Railway operates a mostly steam hauled train service along the beautiful Severn Valley between Kidderminster and Bewdley in Worcestershire and Bridgnorth in Shropshire, a journey of about 16 miles.

A must for a visit is The Engine House Visitor Centre which is located half way along the line at Highley. The reserve collection of steam locomotives is on display there and includes an exhibition that charts the history of the Severn Valley line.
