Intermediate Bike Ride Every Tuesday, 9.15am – 12.30pm A 15-20 mile bike ride at an average to quick pace, mainly off-road. The Chair’s Charity Walk Saturday 30 September All welcome Join us for a three-mile walk taking in the historical sites of North Shields, in aid of the Chair of North Tyneside Council’s charities. Meet at The Linskill Centre, North Shields, at 9.45am for a 10am start. We expect to arrive at Northumberland Park around noon, where there will be children’s activities on offer until 2pm. Entry fee is £5 per adult and £1 per child, with all proceeds going to the charities. October The annual Age Takes Centre Stage Festival returns in October, with a month-long programme of events and activities exclusively for residents aged 50 and over. The festival is a joint project between North Tyneside Council and Age UK North Tyneside. This year’s parks events are: JUST TURN UP

November Light Painting Photography Workshop Wallsend Parks, Richardson Dees Park Pavilion Wednesdays 1, 8, 15 BOOINKE and 22 November ONL 6pm – 9pm S ADULT £36 for four weeks ONLY (block bookings only) A unique four-week course led by local photography expert Ian Hobson. Learn how to create your own illuminated artwork. Structured sessions give you the chance to explore the park at dark, learning light painting techniques. Artwork produced will be displayed in the park’s outdoor gallery space. You will need your own DSLR camera with a 20 second exposure capability and tripod. Visit Santa in his green Grotto adorned with twinkling Christmas lights in the Celtic Village. Children receive a present and can make some Christmas crafts using natural materials collected from the park. Enjoy some warm festive juice and roasted chestnuts around the campfire. There’s something for all the family at this ever-popular event.

New to Bird Watching Course Rising Sun Countryside Centre, Boardroom Tuesday evenings in April / May ÂŁ20 for a four-week course (block bookings only) Do you ever wish that you knew more about birds? If so, this course is for you. It will be led by a local ornithology expert and will be mainly classroom based. Each week the class will focus on the birds found in various local habitats to help you learn what to look out for and where, including those found in woodlands, gardens and coastal areas. Over the weeks you will learn some fascinating facts about particular species, how to identify them and how they have evolved to suit their environment and their migration patterns. Places are limited, so please register your interest early by emailing risingsun@northtyneside.gov.uk or calling 0191 643 2241. You will then receive full details once these are available nearer the time and be asked to confirm at that point if you wish to sign up.
