Grenland is a part of Gea Norvegica UNESCO Global Geopark. Here you can find rocks from different eras in the Geological history of Norway, where the oldest rocks are approximately 1.5 billion years old. The area have several localities where each one tells a fascinating story. Examples of such localities are Steinvika in Langesund and Kapitelberget in Skien, both showing traces from a time when Norway was covered by a shallow tropical sea, south of the equator.
