VISION HOPE INTERNATIONAL // AUGUST 2017. On 26th of August, the United States of America celebrated Women’s equality day – an opportunity for us to have a look at those projects, that promote exactly that! Dear friends and supporters of Vision Hope, I am very proud to be contributing to women empowerment in our project countries. For women, it is crucial to be able to make their decision, such as having access to birth control or medical care during pregnancy and childbirth. In many countries, this is not possible since women often have less access to food, clean drinking water, health care and education. At the same time, they have different medical needs than men and often require special support. For these reasons, we – at Vision Hope International – collaborated with our partner, the Syrian NGO Violet, and founded in 2016 a hospital for women and children in the Idlib governorate. The Idlib region is located in the northwest of the country and is heavily affected by the war, while densely populated with high demands for the care of pregnant women, young mothers and children. Before founding the hospital, women had to travel 50 kilometers to reach the nearest hospital located at the Turkish border. High costs, fear and unpredictable events were their companions. We are now able to support women during their pregnancy and offer prenatal care, obstetrics and pediatric medicine for the mothers and newborns. Every month we support 1500 women, 250 newborns and 800 children together with our partner organisation Violet. In addition, we are providing new jobs for doctors, birth attendants and administrators in the region. Three-fourths of our employees are female and they are being trained on regular basis, while employees are earning a salary and therefore found a mean to supporting their families.
I WILL DONATE NOW.
And what I’m particularly happy about: this year in April, we were able to expand our health care project. The Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) founded our project with 2,5 Million Euro over the next four years: with it, we will train 20 women to become community health workers and birth attendants and offer local health care to pregnant women and mothers in the governorate Idlib, among other things. Many women and children will not be forced to go on a difficult journey from remote areas and to expose themselves to health risks or air strikes. Around 2000 mothers and newborns will receive medical care once the birth attendants will have completed their training. Furthermore we are supporting the local government to build a sustainable health care system, which can outlast our project. But there is still so much work to do. The civil war in Syria is one of the biggest humanitarian disasters to date. More than 12 Million Syrians depend on humanitarian aid every day. 7.6 Million people are on the run. Among them, many pregnant women and mothers with little children who don’t have access to medical care. With our hospital, the birth attendants training project and some new hope, women now have the opportunity to deliver their newborns under medical supervision and free of charge. But the question remains: what comes after that? At home, the babies have to be provided for and the mothers are often without means. That is why I am reaching out to you: With 35 Euros, you can support a women and pay for initial equipment for her child. Diapers, baby powder, soother and cloths as well as warm blankets are included. Especially now, when winter is close and warm clothes are missing.
Dear friends, you have been amazing supporters in the past. My colleagues from Violet and I are so grateful for all your help and your generous donation that brought us one step further every time. Thank you very much for everything! Yours sincerely,
CEO, Matthias Leibbrand
