Old City

After breakfast, tour the amazing City of King David. Begin with a breathtaking observation overlooking Biblical Jerusalem and observe 3,800 years of history dating back in time to the days of Abraham, when the first foundations of the city were laid. The journey quickly heads underground to some of the newest archaeological excavations at the site. Here, while exploring the recently excavated fortresses and passageways, you will relive King David's conquest of the Jebusite city as described in the 2nd Book of Samuel. See the Temple Institute which houses a collection of artifacts from the First and Second Temple Periods. This evening is the start of Yom Yerushalayim. This is an Israeli national holiday commemorating the reunification of Jerusalem and the establishment of Israeli control over the Old City in 1967. The day is marked by state ceremonies, memorial services for soldiers who died in the battle for Jerusalem, parades through downtown Jerusalem, reciting the Hallel prayer in synagogues, lectures on Jerusalem-related topics, singing and dancing, and special television programming. You may want to take part in some of the festivities, as well as take in a special ‘Holiday Maariv’ at the Great Synagogue.

South

After breakfast, travel to Neot Kedumim — the Biblical Landscape Reserve in Israel, halfway between Jerusalem and Tel Aviv, is a unique endeavor to re-create the physical setting of the Bible in all its depth and detail. Far more than a "garden" showing various biblical plants, Neot Kedumim embodies the panorama and power of the landscapes that helped shape the values of the Bible and provided a rich vocabulary for expressing them. Our next stop will be a visit to Sderot, an Israeli city pounded weekly by Kassam Rockets from the Gaza Strip. Show solidarity with the people of Sderot & to convey to them our unyielding commitment to them as part of the People of Israel. Meet with head of Chabad in Sderot, Rabbi Pizen. Shopping in Sderot is encouraged to assist in supporting the economy.
