VIP EVENT | Taste of the Pennyrile Story + Photography by Tony Centonze Kelly Martin and his team at Pennyroyal Hospice just hosted Taste of the Pennyrile at James E. Bruce Convention Center. “This is one of our annual fundraisers,” Martin said. “This is the 16th year of Taste of the Pennyrile. We have 31 food vendors here ranging from Panera Bread to Black Patch restaurant, Lake Barkley Resort, and several local pizza places. We even have a winery and a couple of distilleries here tonight.” Martin says the vendors are invited to attend for free. His team starts working on the lineup each year around January. Vendors bring samples of their bestselling items. Attendees purchase tickets for $15, then get to sample great food and beverages throughout the evening. “All the money goes to help patients at Pennyroyal Hospice who have fallen through the cracks in the system,” Martin said. “Maybe they don’t have insurance, medicare or medicaid, yet Karolyn Mack & Clarence Maxie their health issues don’t stop. “Without this and the other fundraisers we do, we would not be able to serve those folks. This event usually generates about $10,000 each year. We also do a raffle of several items that have been donated from the community. All of this is a tremendous help.”
