LOCAL CALENDAR OF EVENTS AT A GLANCE 15th May 27th May 10th June 17th June 19th June 26th August EVENTS ELSEWHERE 15th July

10.00am TBA 11.30am Rosco Sporting Trials 10.00am Prelim notice Annual Snow Run

Morning tea, Shantytown Club Run to Westport AGM, Union Hotel, Greymouth Reefton Morning tea, Shantytown NATIONAL DAFFODIL DAY St Arnaud, to be hosted by Nelson Branch this year

Our April Club run was up to Lake Brunner for a look around the foreshore and then onto Nelson Creek for lunch. We had 38 members (incl some friends) come along, VERY WET start when we left Greymouth but it got better and better and was quite dry up country. Would not say beautiful but a vast improvement to what was left behind, which made for quite a nice day out. Lunch and get together altogether very satisfactory, nice to see Nick Harrison our new member from Reefton come along to meet up with us. Still raining when we got home so well pleased we made the effort, in the modern car I might add. Sorry, I didn’t take the camera so have no photos. We welcome Brenda Daglish as a joint member with her husband Paul. Always nice to see you come along to Club events Brenda. We were saddened to hear of the passing of Norm Lawrence who along with his wife Iris transferred to our Branch a year ago from Auckland. Norm and Iris were regulars at our monthly coffee mornings and we sent our condolences to Iris and the family. Colin has organised his final Club Run this month and has planned for us to travel up to Westport and have lunch at the Cosmopolitan Hotel, $15.50 per head. Colin will email details and you should hear from your contact ringer. Give Colin or David and I a phone call and we can help if you miss your caller. While I am talking about emails, please be aware that our system is only as good as the email address that I have on record, if anyone is to change their address, please let me know. EVENT ELSEWHERE We have had notification that the date of this year’s annual Snow Run, hosted by Nelson and Marlborough Branches alternatively is to be on the 15th July. Anyone interested in making up a group to attend, please contact me and we can arrange accommodation etc. We also need numbers for this year’s catering Branch.

ROSCO Sporting Trials at Reefton are next month (17th June). John Fowler is our organiser and as usual has things well in hand. He would like some spotters, anyone out there who would like a fun day in the mud, give John a ring, he would love to hear from you and explain what it entails being a “spotter”. It is a fun day so why not join in. Also, we would appreciate it if any ladies going up for the day could contribute a plate for afternoon tea. This feature, along with a sausage sizzle is always welcomed at the end of the day by participants who have to travel back home after the event.

AGM 10th June, 11.30am at the Union Hotel A short note from Allan Giles (Branch Chairman)…

Well, another AGM rolls around It is with excitement and anticipation that I wish to invite all our members to attend this year’s AGM Come along and join me for a relaxed meal in the comfort and warmth of the Union Hotels Copper Room This year we are lucky enough to have local celebrity John Sturgeon as a guest speaker attend ( for a short talk) As always we are looking for new committee members to join the Executive and help with the day to day running of our/ your club This is not a daunting task. Some points to consider, it would be a big advantage to have someone who is up with technology for us to look at a Facebook page or even multi texts about events etc, or just some new points of view. We are faced with two resignations this year from long term members as well as our Club Captain, so please don’t be shy

THE CLUB NEEDS YOU Please consider how you might be able to help. There is NO pressure and I promise nobody will be forced to stand up if they don’t wish to. Soooooo Looking forward to seeing you there and give me a phone call if you would like to talk it over. Mark the date on your calendar now Allan Giles “Further to Allan’s letter – It is most important that we get a new Club Captain. This is the heart of our Club and for some five years we have been enjoying a regular monthly outing. Six months of the year have a fixed event which is mainly attended to by Committee, that leaves six months to organise. If two people would be prepared to share the job, think about it… that would leave three Club runs each to organise. Piece of cake!!!”
