SCENICLAND RALLY CONVENOR
1st Thursday month – Committee meeting at Shantytown 7.30pm 3rd Tuesday month – Morning tea at Shantytown 4th Sunday month – Club Run
Our Club Run on 25th February saw 29 members meet up at the Cobden beach parking area. We didn’t hang around for too long as it was a trifle damp and a bit windy and we were competing for space with the “self-contained” freedom campers. A short trip up to Stillwater and back through Taylorville to the Runanga Workingmen’s Club for lunch resulted in a pleasant outing, a really nice lunch for $10 each and a get together over a cuppa. Thanks Colin, we really enjoyed the outing and it was also nice to catch up with several Hokitika members who joined us. Members take note that Colin is standing down this year and we will be looking for a new Club Captain OR is there a couple of members and partners out there who would like to share the job. It’s so important to keep our cars moving and to be seen as a Club on the road each month.
LOCAL CALENDAR OF EVENTS AT A GLANCE 17th March 20th March 7th April 17th April 22nd April 26th August

Morning tea, Shantytown Shantytown Heritage Day Morning tea, Shantytown Club Run NATIONAL DAFFODIL DAY
Last month’s morning tea was put off owing to the imminent arrival of Cyclone Geti. We probably could have gone ahead but the warnings were quite precise so we took them on board. We have obtained permission from Mawhera Incorporation to make use of the old Grey Main site at 180 Tainui St (opposite Repco) on the fourth Sunday of each month to leave for our Club Runs. This is because BP2Go carpark is being used for their extension. Scenicland Coal Trail Rally - 17th March Entries have now closed for our annual Rally and we have well over 100 registrations which is very good. We have members travelling from Bluff to the top of the south and also some from the North Island. We just hope now that the weather is kind to us as it is going to be a great day. John and Janis Fensom have been busy plotting the Rally route which takes in some interesting sites.
Shantytown Heritage Day is on the 7th April We have been invited to Shantytown to take part in their Coronation Hall Fundraiser. This is the third year this is being held and it would be nice if we could get a number of Club vehicles parked up by our Clubrooms and Garage. Come along, bring your pride and joy and spend some time at our facility. Hours 10am – 4pm or whatever you can manage. Canterbury Swap Meet date The dates for the Swap Meet this year are Friday 12th, Saturday 13th and Sunday 14th October. To clarify how the dates are set – the Swap Meet is always held on the second weekend in October. If the 1st October happens to fall on a Sunday this will be determined as being the first weekend of the month for the purpose of setting the Swap Meet dates.
EVENTS ELSEWHERE … Bangers to Bluff 2018 is an exciting Charity Fundraiser run by the Rotary Club of Half Moon Bay (Inc). This year Multiple Sclerosis NZ and Hopeworks Foundation are the 2018 recipients. $85,000 has been raised over the three years the rally has been run. Cars will leave Auckland on 10th April 2018 and spend 12 days driving ‘roads less travelled’ all the way to Invercargill where they will be auctioned off to raise funds for the chosen charities. Locally they will include the Haast and Arthur’s Passes in their route and they will be in Greymouth on 16th April.
