Club Captain’s Report.

Thank you to everyone who came to the Warkworth A&P Show. We had 18 cars. Dave Oliver brought his Motor bike, we had 2 visitors and welcomed a new member. I have since received an email from the organisers thanking us for our impressive display. There were 9 cars at our picnic on the beach at Scandrett Park. We had just one shower, but the Norfolk Pine made a great umbrella. 27 people came to our first club night of 2018. Leon presented Robert Page with his 35 year badge (rather late, as he isn’t far from his 50th !). Had we known some of his motoring adventures, he would have been awarded the Hard Luck Trophy last year. The Gymnic was a washout. But 8 enthusiasts gathered for a picnic in Franz Edgar’s barn, and Anne & Doug Hamilton rearranged the 6 activities for indoors- well in the barn. The partnership of Franz & Chris Harvey emerged the winners. Thank you Franz for hosting us. Our next events are: March 7th Picnic at Sullivan’s Bay March 10th Are We There Yet? Rally. See last month’s registration form Also, there are 2 Car Shows in the Auckland area, see the events and look on the internet. Finally, the National Daffodil Rally for Cancer will be on August 26th, More details later but please put this in you dairies now. This again will be a big event to organise. We will need volunteers to help but also greater participation than last year. It would be so good if every member participated in some way. As a reminder. The Rally has 2 purposes. Firstly to raise the profile of the club and maybe to interest younger people. Secondly, to raise money for the Cancer Society. We are all touched by cancer at some time, and are aware of the support that patients and their families need. I hope March has less rain and more sun. Happy and Safe Motoring Anne Richardson and Team.

John Phillips

1926 - 2018

Member of The VCCNZ from July 1979 to now. John was one of the early members of the Wellsford Branch of the Vintage Car Club as it was called then. He always had a passion for motorcycles and had some lovely machines – Velocettes being the make that he favoured. John was very active in the early days. One of my favourite memories is during those early branch days when we decided to run a hill climb on his farm land in Woodcocks Road. OSH didn’t seem to exist in those carefree days and we had a wonderful time racing up a dirt track that was carved out of a hillside. We had entries ranging from Ron Anderson’s International truck, to Ron Roycroft’s Jaguar engine special. A great day at the unforgettable ‘Great Phillips Farm Hillclimb’. John was always a gentleman, friendly, an enthusiast and always had time for a natter. Thanks John for the fun and pleasure of knowing you and your family. May you rest in peace and we all extend our condolences to Maureen and your family. Paul and Bev Hicks and members of the Wellsford- Warkworth Vintage Car Club.
