Chairmans Chatter

Hello Folks

The big Vero International Festival of Historic Motoring is getting really close now with only less than a month to go before all entrants will start their run to Nelson. The Cook Strait ferries will have a real busy time in the days leading up to the event which starts on the 15th of March transporting all entrants from the North Island and vehicles across the water and return after the event. From what I have heard ferry bookings are full to the end of April. Best of luck for a great rally to all Taranaki entries.

We warmly welcome another new member to our branch. Rob Street from New Plymouth who has joined with 1957 Land Rover and a 1928 Chevrolet Utility.

The Branch is saddened to hear of the passing of member Hugh Cowan. We send our deepest sympathy to Jill and family. Hugh made a great contribution to our branch over the years that he served as our Club Secretary.

8 members attended the Inglewood Charity Motor Show held in Inglewood joining over 300 vehicles on show. It was disappointing to hear that all our vehicles were not all together on show as this is a great way to promote our club. We must ensure that we all are able to be together at future shows as our tear drop VCC flags are a great way of saying who we are when they are displayed at each end of the display of our vehicles.

At our Noggin and Natter night in January member Harry Duynhoven gave us a talk on the latest updates from the Federation of Motoring Clubs. There were some interesting questions asked and Harry was able to answer with his experience as being past President of the Federation. He answered an interesting question on the use of the old, black and aluminium rego plates and how they could be used again on our vehicles. If any members have further questions, I am sure Harry could be contacted and our own Vehicle VIN's and VIC'S officer member Les Bognuda will help with any problems or questions.

It will be a busy time coming up with the big annual Americana coming to New Plymouth with Street shows in Waitara and the big Street Party in Inglewood. It will also be great to see the vehicles driving around our province and towns over the four days of the event.

Also, I know some members are off to the Model T rally in Auckland and the Highland Fling Rally that is being hosted by the South Waikato branch. Have a great time and enjoy either viewing vehicles or driving them.

So, keep the passion......... get out and about........ Drive safely and keep to the left.

Cheers

Chairman Colin

Club Captains Report

Inglewood Charity Car Show

Thanks to all the members that made the effort to bring their cars to the annual Inglewood Car Show.

There were over 400 cars in attendance with around ten club members making up the ranks. The weather played its part and made for a very enjoyable day. We have another request for club members to attend a rest home in Westown, If I could get an indication of who would be keen to attend one weekend later this month or early next month. We are currently planning more exciting runs for the year ahead and look forward to catching up with you all soon.

February Guest Speaker

There will be no guest speaker this month. If anyone has suggestions or recommendations for future guest speakers, please let me know.

EDITORS REPORT

Well, just in from this year’s Mini-Vin and can I say that we were almost blown away by the day. 50 km/hr winds certainly made the day interesting, but the hardy souls that turned out had a day to remember. Thanks Colin and team for a most enjoyable tour round about the back roads of Waitara and the afternoon tea was exceptional. Congratulations to Grant Bishop who took out the top prize, thanks also to Danny and Shirley Hurley who provided the prizes for this year’s event
