Rally report A field of twenty two entries started from our VCC clubrooms on the 14th April to cross the border in to South Canterbury country for our annual Gerald Lynch-Blosse memorial motor cycle rally. The lunch stop was at the Waihao Forks Hotel where a great meal was consumed. The riders headed off again through South Canterbury’s neat winding and hilly back roads to end up back at NOVCC clubrooms for afternoon tea and presentations. One puncture was encountered and one clutch cable broke (who completed the rally with no clutch) and a great day was had. I would like to thank all that helped make this rally a success including donated food and trailer loan from Young motors Suzuki. NEWLYWED MORNINGS A young couple decided to wed. As the big day approached, they grew apprehensive. Each had a problem they had never before shared with anyone, not even each other. The Groom-to-be, overcoming his fear, decided to ask his father for advice. "Father," he said, "I am deeply concerned about the success of my marriage." His father replied, "Don't you love this girl?" "Oh yes, very much," he said," but you see, I have very smelly feet, and I'm afraid that my fiance will be put off by them." "No problem," said dad, "all you have to do is wash your feet as often as possible, and always wear socks, even to bed." Well, to him this seemed a workable solution. The bride-to-be, overcoming her fear, decided to take her problem up with her mom." Mom," she said, "When I wake up in the morning my breath is truly awful." "Honey," her mother consoled, "everyone has bad breath in the morning." "No, you don't understand, my morning breath is so bad, I'm afraid that my fiance will not want to sleep in the same room with me." Her mother said simply, "Try this. In the morning, get straight out of bed, and head for the kitchen and make breakfast. While the family is busy eating, move on to the bathroom and brush your teeth. The key is, not to say a word until you've brushed your teeth." "I shouldn't say good morning or anything?" the daughter asked.

"Not a word," her mother affirmed. "Well, it's certainly worth a try," she thought. The loving couple were finally married. Not forgetting the advice each had received, he with his perpetual socks and she with her morning silence, they managed quite well. That is, until about six months later. Shortly before dawn one morning, the husband woke with a start to find that one of his socks had come off. Fearful of the consequences, he frantically searched the bed. This, of course, woke his bride and without thinking, she asked, "What on earth are you doing?" "Oh, my," he replied, "you've swallowed my sock!"

May Club Night Guest Speaker: David A Wilson; well known for his life and work here in Oamaru. "Taking a Carburettor to India" A presentation on his recent heritage and community work in India. David has owned and driven his 1936 Chev pickup truck for over 40 years and recently took a 1936 Austin carburettor in his luggage to India. Come and listen to his fascinating insights into a different life and culture with some car nut gems thrown in. Turn the TV off, get off ya backside and get along to YOUR club for a great meeting...the last one of the year before the AGM, which you had better turn up for as well. It's a night out with friends for the cost of a packet of biscuits. You're not getting any younger and you want to see and hear David before the inevitable effects of age and decrepitude completely set in. (I didn’t think David looked too bad when I saw him last month. Ed) See you there with that packet of biscuits!

Club Captain’s Report The attendance at the April Club Night was very encouraging and the Members who spoke on the topic “Where it all began” was well received by members present. “Where it all began” grew from a member’s suggestion to do something similar to Hawkes Bay Branch’s “Off the Couch” when their chairman interviewed a member about his past work life in Sudan. On Sunday May 6th we will have a Homestead Run with an ‘early mothers’ day twist’ Wendy Pringle will assist Rebecca & Kathleen with this event. Rebecca & Kathleen
