Chairman’s Report It is with some pride that the National Body has asked us to present a paper at the executive meeting on our branch achievements on our last Daffodil Day. The National Chairperson “Diane” has asked for details etc on how we achieved this and wants us to share what we did with other clubs. Chris and I will do this on behalf of our branch. One message will be is to give the branches the freedom to do as they wish to get the best results for their local Cancer Society. I wish to convey to members to look at the two notices of motion which will be forwarded to you, please give ideas what you think so Chris and I can vote on what you all would like. Thank you to those who attended the debriefing re Heritage Day, you did us proud with your attendance. Thank you to Oliver for painting the windows, they look really good. We had another great day in the sounds, all the better for visiting Bill Brownlee’s property and being taken back into the 1920/30s. Thanks Bob. Chris, Bob and myself have changed the Chairmans Run to a trip back down the sounds instead of Kaikōura, because of the uncertainty of state highway 1. VINTAGE MOTORING, Kelly

Club Captain’s Report Bugger! It's March already. Its been a busy summer with regular trips to Picton to work in with the Marlborough Flyer. Thank you to everybody who has taken part. By now photos of our cars will be speeding round the world and we have met some interesting people, and have enjoyed quite a few trips on the train. This is another example of the more you put into something, the more you get out of it. The nibbles and movies proved to be a huge success, with thanks to all involved. The ice creams and Jaffas were a complete surprise - so keep the ideas coming ladies! The trip to Te Puru Bay in the outer Pelorus Sound turned out to be one of the highlights of the year. Not only did Don Register receive his 50year badge in a beautiful setting amongst friends, but we met the most amazing, practical, friendly person you would find anywhere. In the boat shed was a winch for his boat that was driven by water pressure from a dam up the hill. As well as tools driven also by water pressure, the whole property was like walking back in time. Inside the house (which he invited us into) there was history everywhere, in the form of old photos and relics which he gladly shared with us. Thank you for an amazing day Bill! The new Mail Boat is not to be missed,

cruising at 22knots and top speed of 30 knots, it made comfortable work of rough seas. On the way back we cruised into Wakatahuri for a quick look and also encountered a pod of dolphins which Linda will have photos of. All too soon we were back to reality, but I can see no reason we can't do this trip again. In fact we are now planning to repeat this on 8th April to replace the Chairmans Run to Kaikoura. At this stage the road is very unreliable (not to mention slow with all the roadworks) and Te Puru Bay is not to be missed. We are lucky to have access to the Mail Boat at such a reasonable price and the owner of Te Puru is in his 90s, and the history could soon be gone.

Update from Your Social Convenor Hi Everyone, Gosh another month has passed and it has been a reasonably quite month. Our Wednesday morning teas are still busy with our usual 60 to 70 in for there natter and scones, don't forget ladies, you are also welcome to come along and have scones and a natter on Wednesay mornings. Our Movie and nibble night on the 23rdwas another enjoyable night and I would like to say "THANK YOU" to Barry and Marg for the movie they picked and to the team that helped with the preparation of the food, the waitress's and our chief David. Again thank you. As Good Friday is the 30th March we will have our next Natter & Noggin on Thursday 29th March and it is a Pot Luck Meal. Everyone is welcome. Cheers from the Kitchen 8

From the Blokes in the Shed‌ Regretfully I start my speall this month with my grumpy hat on. But such is the responsibility of office. Subject, our scrap metal bin. It is being abused, not necessarily by our members, but non metal is being put in it. It's not a bloody dump skip. Large pieces of rubber, camp chairs with canvas and plastic still attached, the list goes on. Not good enough. Please, do not bring any old buggered tyres up to the shed from now on. We have a problem disposing of them too. So please help us keep this under control. Your co-operation would be appreciated. Now I put my more familiar happy hat on. Mark Saturday 24th March as your place to be. The Sheds will be open 1pm - 3pm, for members who cant be there during the week, here's your chance, we look forward to seeing you there. As an added attraction the Packard Owners Club will be on the Green, do well worth a visit. The new shed is gradually filling up as the container contents are being emptied and treasures keep coming to the surface, some unseen for decades. Such fun Cheers the Major.

South Pacific Packard Club of New Zealand

South Pacific Packards was formed by a group of New Zealand Packard enthusiasts in 1993. Since then the Club has grown to over fifty five members who between them own over one hundred and twenty-five Packards ranging in year from 1918 through to 1958, some restored, some under restoration and others awaiting restoration. The Club is proud of the fact that it has at least one example of most of the models produced by Packard during these years. The Packard Owners Club will be in town for a couple of days 23rd / 24th / 25th March and will be at Patchetts Green Saturday 24th in the afternoon.

Motorcycle News We had a smaller than usual turnout for our monthly run but it was to be expected with several members away on one of many bike rallies that weekend, fortunately we got a day that didn’t rain. Mac met us at Koromiko and joined us for lunch, as did friends of Ross who are getting back on the road with a long -term family owned Norton. After lunch everyone headed home. The previous day many had been seen ferreting around at the Nelson swap meet most seemed to have shown restraint and good sense in their purchases although one may have been optimistic in purchasing a rolling chassis for a small Honda minus everything that could be unbolted off it for his next restoration. In the shed there has been a fair bit happening, magnetos for Triumphs and AJS have been crossing the Tasman for refurbishment, Baldy’s had the BSA engine worked over, work continues on the Egli Vincent and three quarters of a Zundapp has been painted and is out of my garage and in the spare room. With the National Motorcycle Rally being held here in February next year it would be good to have a decent turnout of local members riding on the day. The rally caters for all VCC eligible vehicles that includes scooters, winged wheel and bikes right through to the VCC cut-off date, so if you have an eligible bike of any kind consider entering.

For those with bikes that haven’t obtained a vehicle identity card through the club for their bike then now’s a good time, it is a simple process, contact either Trev or I and we will get the forms to you. Glenn
