MOTORCYCLE NOTES NATIONAL MOTORCYCLE RALLY

The organising committee is steadily moving forward with the massive job of organising the rally. When we were given the hosting, rights February 2019 seemed a long way away but now it seems very close and there is a lot yet to be done.

After lunch some headed back to town while others rode up to the lookout before carrying on around the Queen Charlotte track. Two that stopped at the lookout and parked their bikes on a downward slope suffered the indignity of flooded carbs, while one was able to preform a bump start worthy of Mike Hailwood, the other riders was more akin to a gut shot pukeko waddle.

It is the same for those of you restoring machines to ride in the rally. The rally entry closing date is now less than a year away (November) and your M/C has to be finished and VCC authenticated. Pull finger we want and value your entry along with every other Marlborough Branch motorcyclist. This may be your only chance to ride in a National M/C rally in your own province. Do not waste it. Some non-motorcycle branch members have already offered their help over the rally weekend which is good. We will need a lot more eventually.

OCTOBER RUN After having to abandon the previous run to Havelock due to persistent rain it was pleasing to have a decent day and a good turnout of seventeen bikes. Darryl and Zig flew the V Twin flag with the Indian and Harley with the rest being a good cross section of brit and jap. Everyone made it to Havelock for lunch and the line up of bikes from the veranda looked impressive.

Baldly was out for the first time after having done a very nice restoration of the ex Gordan Finlay B.S.A he has it looking smart and sounding nice, mighty Mack drove from Picton with his new bionic leg after the first titanium rod insert parted company from itself and had to be replaced (it is yet to be deduced if this was faulty material, workmanship or

Thanks to Paul for once again providing back up. Several motorcycle members made it to the Car clubs run to Zigs to have a look at his new additions, fair to say all were impressed not only with the bike, cars and trucks but the shed and its layout had a few envious as well.

MOTORCYCLE EVENTS COMING UP December Sunday 17th

Annual pot luck lunch. Gather at the clubrooms at 10.30a.m. Drop off your lunch if your partner is not coming later (we hope she is). We will go to the Waterlea rest home to show off our motorcycles to the old folk. To correspond with age of the residents the older your motorcycle the better but all later models of course will be appreciated. A round of Christmas cheer at a watering hole will be had, probably the Cork and Keg before returning to the clubrooms for lunch at 12.30 – 45! January Sunday 21st Leave the park at 11am for lunch at Seddon.
