Chairman’s Report It gives me great pleasure to present my first Chairman’s Report from the driver's seat of the EBOPVCC Branch I would like to thank our previous Chairman Les Costar for his part over the last four years but it’s also reassuring to know that his support is there in the role of Past Chair. Our branch AGM was held recently and all positions except the Editors position was filled, so welcome back to our committee members that have returned and also to our new committee members that have put forward their services, so all bodes well for the forthcoming season. Recent event completed was our annual mid- winter ‘Night Owl Run’, thank you Pete and Robyn Hadley for a great run and I understand we may have a day run of the same event later in the year, so we all look forward to that later on. As I mentioned earlier, all but one position was filled except that of the Editorial role, I am hoping one of our members will step up and take this on as it is important for us to be able to inform you all what's happening, and what's coming up.

The other pleasing aspect of our club is the great turnout of members coming along to the branch meetings. For the members that reside outside Whakatane and travel in for the meetings, a hearty thanks. I see our present membership up around 107 members, it would be great to see some of them too at some stage. I look forward to catching up with you all in the near future. Regards Lytle Hall

Club Captain Report July 2019 Night Owl Rally. Peter and Robyn Hadley set a very good Night Owl Rally which started shortly after 5.00pm They had set us a straight line diagram which took us down some dead end roads and through Poroporo, out to the Pekatahi Bridge then back into Whakatane where there was a loop to do around Te Tahi Street and back to the Athletic Club Rooms. Questions were asked to check we were on course. It was good that our headlights could see these. Robyn also asked us to name what a number of groups of creatures are called and also to draw a pig. Evidently it was the drawing of the pig that decided the winner. The groups she asked us to name were: A group of Giraffes

=Tower

A group of Wolves

=Pack

Rhinoceros

= Crash

“ Swans

=Bevy

Donkeys

=Drove

Goats

=Tribe

Hens

=Brood

Pigs

=Drift

The worthy winners were our Chairman Lytle, wife Marlene and daughter Rena. This was followed by a very enjoyable social time and pot luck tea.

July Club Run. On Sunday the 21st July our run is a non- competitive tour of the countryside. Join in to explore and maybe get some education. The run will cover about 48 miles and has a couple of short gravel roads that some of you may not have been on. Meet at Bunnings at 1.15pm for a 1.30pm start. Afternoon tea will be at Alan and Lorraine Stock's home in Shaw Road Whakatane. Nobby's Nosh Tuesday 6th August at the RSA This is an annual event that was started by Nobby who was one of our active past members. After he died the Club decided to keep this going as an annual social event. We meet at the RSA at 5.30pm for dinner at 6.00pm. On Tuesday nights they have their 'Steak and Ale' dinner for $20.50 as well other items on the menu. I will need an indication of numbers attending and will ask for this at our July club night.

August VCC Daffodil Day Sunday 25th. Once again VCC Clubs throughout NZ are running events to raise money for Cancer. Our Club will join with a similar event to what we had last year. A number of other Car Clubs will be asked to join us to make the event as big as possible and so hopefully get a lot of public support and raise even more money than last year. There were 50 cars last year and we are aiming for 75 this year. All types of vehicles are welcome to join. This will be our August Club Run and we will meet at The Hub at 1.00pm, do a town tour followed by a public display back at The Hub where we hope to raise more money than last years $800. September run to Paeroa Friday 13th to Sunday 15th. This year Steve and Joy are again organising this trip to the Paeroa Vintage and Classic Weekend. It is taking place on Friday, Saturday and Sunday the 13th, 14th and 15th September. Steve and Joy take us on an interesting tour through parts of the Waikato arriving in Paeroa late afternoon. Those going will need to book accommodation early. Some of us are staying at the Pedlars Motel in Paeroa on the Friday and Saturday nights. September Club Run Sunday 22nd After the Night Owl Straight Line section some mentioned that they would like to do it in the day time, so that is what we will do. Possibly those more confident could travel with those not so confident on this section. After that we could do another straight line where we could try it on our own. Meet at Bunnings at 1.15pm for a 1.30pm start. Advance notices. 1) October Labour Weekend, Friday 25th to Monday 28th, 250th Anniversary of Captain Cook arriving at Gisborne. Book your accommodation now. Other Clubs are joining us for the trip over to Gisborne and all are meeting in Opotiki at 1.00pm. 2) November Friday 1st to Sunday 3rd, Gisborne and us annual get together based at the Ohiwa Beach Holiday Park.

Below Robyn is presenting Marlene and Lytle Hall with the Night Owl Trophy.

From the Secretary A good turn-out of members at our June meeting with 29 in attendance. It was very good to see Steve and Joy Growden join us after Steve’s pretty serious hospital stay. Joy was keeping a firm grip of the car keys tho’! New Chairman Lytle Hall must have been expecting some ‘trouble from the ranks’ as he bought along a very official looking gavel and sounding block. Needless to say we were all very well behaved! On the subject of members whilst there has been the odd inquiry over the last 2 months at this stage no-one is in the process of joining up. Entry forms are available for the Rotorua Sulphur City which is coming up on the 31st August, entries close on the 22nd August.

Did you read the report by Rod Brayshaw on the future use of Historic vehicles? I sent this to our members who receive email. Food for thought whether you agree or not change will come our way and we need to stay active with our vehicles. Something else for those who like to spend some time on a keyboard is a new online marketplace devoted to Old cars and other Old vehicles, take a look at My Vintage – www.myvintage.co.nz. Now the most serious paragraph-Help- We are lacking an Editor at present! I will put out either a newsletter or maybe ‘have a go’ at putting a Running Board together but please please if anyone can help to fill this position remember that the magazine is what binds the Club together! Regards Karen Insuring your Vehicle through Vero When insuring your vehicle through Vero let them know you are a Member of the Eastern BOP Vintage Car Club And quote number: 300132 Contact Vero on 0800 658 411 If you have transferred between Branches you need to notify Vero so that your commission Will go to the Branch you belong to.

From the Temporary Acting Editor: aka Karen Not sure what to say here folks, I haven’t at this stage gone onto the Running Board email, so if there are any articles awaiting there my apologies! It’s taken a bit of my time getting this far and I have learnt a bit more about easy ways to cut/copy and paste! I’m hoping that this is set out correctly when I go to print it or otherwise I might feel in need of something fortifying before the computer suffers a mishap!! Especially deleting blank pages is always a trial to me!
