Chairman’s Report The Easter Run held on the 2nd April was a good run organised by Rod & Dawn McKimmie. After a look around the Mt Somers and Mayfield Districts we stopped at the McNabb’s lovely gardens for a lunch stop then off to Arundel to look at the 400 acres of irrigation ponds. Thanks to the McKimmie’s for doing this run. 18 cars took the oldies out from Radius Millstream Rest Home for a short drive around town, then over to Tinwald for a look at the Plains Heritage Park and the new Tinwald Camping Grounds. Thanks to all those that came along for this day. The night run was held on the 19th April. What a poor turn out for this event, with a total of 8 cars for both runs including just one car for the evening run. It makes us wonder why we go to the effort to put these evenings on for such a poor turn out. It is all go for the Swap Meet on the 5th May so let’s hope the weather plays its part. The Rotary Run is on the 6th May This months’ club night speaker on the 17th is Toni Sweetman. This should be a good night so let’s have a good turnout please, and bring a small plate for supper. Timaru Branch has their PV/PWV-P60-P80 run on the 13 May. Ashburton Christian School want about 8 cars for their wheels day on the 22nd May. Please contact me if you can attend. AGM IS ON THE 21st JUNE. LET’S SEE A GOOD TURN OUT FOR THIS. Restoration Of the Year. Please contact me. This will be presented at the Annual Dinner on the 19th July. Garage Raid is at South Canterbury Branch this year on the 4th August for the Boys. I have been talking to Anne Hart and there will be a lunch for the Girls. More on times etc at a later date. The shingle has been spread on the drive & in front of the Museum and looks good. I would like to thank Peter McMillan for the donation of filters etc., to the parts shed. Thanks a lot. Trevor Begg. 7

Easter Run 2nd April Organised by Rod & Dawn McKimmie

Lunch in the McNadd’s Garden 8

Club Captain’s Report April 2017 April is always a busy month for vintage motoring andthis April has been no exception! The South Island Easter Rally attracted 4 entries from Ashburton, some stayed on and joined the South Island Club Captain’s South Island Tour. Our own Club Captain’s night trial attracted only a few hardy souls, the daylight event only one entry! Presumably the event has run its course, and may be removed from our calendar of events. Rod McKimmie’s Easter Run attracted a enthusiastic entry of vehicles, and I understand was well received. Next month we have our Swap Meet and the Rotary Club’s Run during Wheels Week, this event is always well attended by our members and presumably that will be the case again this year. That being the case we will not have another club run during May. (Unless someone wishes to organise one, just let a committee member know if that is the case). David Oakley

Restoration of the Year We are looking for vehicles to enter Restoration of the Year. Please contact Trevor Begg Ph: 308 3803 or Peter Jacob Ph:308 8940 if you wish to enter your vehicle.

Swap Meet 2018

Saturday 5th May

This annual event will be held at our Club rooms on Maronan Road Tinwald and is our club’s major fund raiser of the year. Setting up will take place on the Thursday and Friday prior to the day. The success of this day is dependent on members helping out with the many tasks such as parking, traffic signage, office, site setting up, SH1 signage and site dismantling to name a few. As they say “Many hands make light work”. We have a pool of experienced people but we are always looking out for people to step up and assist. Karen Bell is again coordinating site bookings which are on a par with previous years. Sites are $25 (Includes one entry) and entry is $5 for adults. Club members will pay unless they have a “Volunteer Pass”, given to those who attend working bees. This year the sites on the back paddock, are being moved south because the ground is being used for another purpose and is not available. Thanks in anticipation Noel Batty Convener 14

SALMON QUICHE This quiche can be made using Savoury Short Pastry or with precooked potatoes either mashed or sliced. If using pastry, bake blind for 10 mins and let cool before proceeding. Ingredients: for 20cm quiche dish 2 x hand size pieces of fresh salmon 100gms minimum smoked salmon shavings 4 eggs PLUS 2 egg yolks 1 + 1/2 cups cream OR1 cup cream +1/2 cup sour cream 1 x finely chopped red onion Salt & Pepper to taste Dill, chives, parsley, whichever you prefer Grated cheese (I use tasty) If using potato base, I put a sprinkling of cheese then put the potato on top, or sliced potatoes about 3mm (1/4) thick. Line bottom with smoked salmon shavings, sprinkle over red onion. Remove skin from salmon, cut into small pieces and add to dish. Sprinkle herbs salt & pepper. Beat eggs, add cream and sour cream (if using) & pour over salmon mixture. Sprinkle cheese over dish and push down to cover salmon with the egg mixture. Bake at 180°C for 45 - 50 minutes or until egg is set. Lovely eaten hot or cold. Cold develops more flavour.

VEGETARIAN QUICHE

Prepare and cut combination of vegetables into small slices, cubes and grated. Peel and cook all except grated veges until just tender, fold in grated vegs and cool. Assemble all veges in baking dish. Use recipe above for eggs and cream, etc pour over the veges put a knife in to ensure eggs gets to the bottom, cover with cheese. Cook as above. 18
