NATIONAL AGM – 16/17 AUGUST Well, the National AGM is behind us after months of planning. All went very well and we have had great feedback from delegates from around the country. A BIG thank you to all who assisted in so many ways, I am not going to name those who willingly helped out with transporting members to and from planes, trains, motels etc, with manpower - lifting heavy stuff at the Ashley/Regent Theatre and those who hosted groups for us on the Saturday and Sunday at Shantytown and the Hokitika Heritage Park, you know who you are and we couldn’t have done it without you. As a point of interest – Andy Anderson who is a founding and life member of the Club and aged 91 years drove himself over to the Coast in his new Suzuki and told David ‘it goes like the clappers’. He enjoyed himself so much he is planning to drive it to Wanganui next year for the 2020 AGM. Hows that for optimism!! There are some relevant points resulting from the AGM which I will deal with later in the newsletter.
DAFFODIL DAY 25th AUGUST The National Daffodil Day Run was again a success, 50 vehicles participated in the display in Greymouth and subsequent run and display in Hokitika. We beat the weather again and we raised $1256.50 for the West Coast Cancer Society. Once again, good support from the public, the Hot Rodders and the Straycats Clubs. Thank you all. It was decided at the National AGM to continue this annual support for the Cancer Society on a national basis for another 3 years.
SEPTEMBER CLUB RUN 22nd September Colin will be in touch when he has this month’s Club run to Westport organised. If you miss your contact when they ring and you plan on coming along, let him know as he needs numbers for lunch.
EVENTS ELSEWHERE I have available entry forms for the National North Island Easter Rally to be held 10-13 April 2020 to be hosted by the Horowhenua Branch.
FROM THE NATIONAL AGM… FROM THE FACEBOOK TEAM Last year Lynne Freeman from Radio New Zealand interviewed Life member Roger White from Wellington Branch and Diane Humphreys from Waitemata Branch for her Summer Days radio programme. The following are links to the interviews plus there are lots of great photos as well. https://www.rnz.co.nz/national/programmes/summer-days/audio/2018677152/vintage-carclubs https://www.rnz.co.nz/national/programmes/summer-days/20181227 These links can also be found on the Club’s facebook page.
Also please note in the “Useful Info” section, new information on the Facebook page and also a Club negotiated 10% discount for VCC members with TranzRail
HIGHLAND FLING from the NI Club Captain At our AGM held in Greymouth we were informed of a new event happening in the North Island at Anzac Weekend, 24-26 April 2020. This will be similar to the annual Irishman’s which is held in the South Island every Queen’s Birthday Weekend. The chosen location for the first event will be the highlands of Taihape/Upper Rangitikei area. This region has been selected because Alistair Jones BOP member who is spearheading the rally has a great deal of knowledge and experience “under his belt” travelling off-road in and around Taihape/Waiuru from his many years as a Major serving in the NZ Army. It is open to Veteran and Vintage vehicles. The BOP will host this inaugural “Highland Frolic” and hopefully another Branch will volunteer for 2021, therefore will not necessarily be held every year in the Taihape region.
I HAVE THE FOLLOWING PRESENTATIONS WHICH WERE MADE AT THE AGM AVAILABLE TO BE EMAILED TO ANYONE WHO IS INTERESTED IN RECEIVING … Please ring me 7684226 if you wish to have any forwarded to you

The following is Chairman Allan’s Delegate’s report from the AGM for your information All went as expected, the venue [Ashley Hotel] was well set out and all the facilities were up to scratch with good food and well organised timing and layout. No surprises with the appointments of the management committee. *** See further *** The remit that was discussed by us about the process by which rule change proposals are submitted and voted on had a complete turn around the new motion was carried. We actually voted in favour of this remit in spite of our earlier thought and direction [which was echoed by quite a few other branches as well]. The main chage was the understanding or previous misunderstanding of the ‘us and them’, mainly that the delegates and the management committee are not the same. The delegates are our branch representatives and rule proposals will be discussed and possible amendments suggested and applied where necessary. Approved and then voted on. Our previous misunderstanding was that this was going to be the roll of the management commitment. NOT THE CASE. Other main topics Rallies and calendar of events – noted from the floor that the Easter rally was to be held biannually North and South Islands. The BIG ONE – A possible name and monogram/logo change … This was presented by our National President with a possible NEW logo as a discussion point. And discussed it was, with the general feeling being positive around possible change. To this end, even our founding and life member Mr Andy Anderson spoke and was not opposed to the exploration of this idea. Our ageing membership – OLD PEOPLE The need to embrace newer cars and younger people along with events that would encourage participation. Moving forward With facebook, web pages and modern media, texting or whatever happens next.
The need to encourage younger members. Discussion held again on online membership application and how to implement, control and still have Branch approval. All in all, a very well run but typical AGM Allan Giles 5/9/2019
***We have received word this week that Management Committee member – Ed Boyd – passed away unexpectedly on 10th September. We will extend the Branch’s sympathy to his family.
