Monthly Newsletter of the Wairarapa Branch of the Vintage Car Club of New Zealand November 2019

Club Captains Report There was a time when I knew at least the first name of all the active club members. Today I find myself peering at the badges or labels of strangers. It’s a healthy sign of a growing branch, but it underlines the need to wear badges or labels at club functions. Recently we had a visit by Horowhenua members from Levin. That followed a “raid” on Levin by Wairarapa members. Parts man Frank expressed the hope that the exchange would lead to greater interaction with other branches.

There was the opportunity to meet other enthusiasts at the big swap meet at Manfeild Park on October 5. The guys had organised a host of saleable items to boost branch funds. They deserve a big pat on the back for what is quite a labour-intensive occasion. The New Members’ Rally (organised by Chris Giles) ran successfully on Sunday 13th October, with 16 cars taking part in liesurely run around the south Wairarapa. Chris has done a lot of work (and miles) on this and deserves credit for his efforts. There has been some debate about the future of the Daffodil Rally, the return on which has topped $1000 and gave nearly 100 owners the opportunity to air their pride and joy. There were thoughts of choosing another charity, but the decision has been made to stay with the Cancer Society in the meantime. Finally, on a sad note, the funeral of branch member David Clement was held on September 27. David had two cars, a Morris Minor and an Austin A35. He and his wife Trish did a couple of events in the A35 and the car was due back with the family after an engine rebuild when he died. Our thoughts go out to Trish and the family. . – Kevin Ball
