CHAIRMAN’S CHAT

STAN GARMONSWAY

Greetings everyone Peter Robinson is away on business this month and he sends his apologies for not having any scribbles for you. I have to say I was extremely disappointed at the turnout for club night, given the importance of the subject for the night. I can only guess that the Manawatu Branch members care not a jot for how the VCC is perceived and promoted. If that is the case then it is a very sad situation indeed. The move to change the club logo and perhaps the name will happen very rapidly. The President hopes to have it all done and dusted for the AGM next year. I showed her powerpoint of her proposal at clubnight and there was some discussion by the few that were present. Some interesting points of view were put forward. The swapmeet was as usual a huge success, being the second most profitable on record. Trevor Hardy and Sarah Howell are to be congratulated for managing the event and assembling the team to run it on the day.

Trevor has decided that after 20 years of coordinating the swapmeet, it is time to step down from the role and hand over to someone else. Sarah Howell has put up her hand to take over the role of swapmeet coordinator, and I know she has many ideas on how to organize it for next year. On that note, there will be a de-brief of the swapmeet at the clubrooms on November 13 at 7:00pm and all those who were helping are invited to attend. Your input will be welcome. The next committee meeting will be in two parts: It will be held on November 13, and will start at 9:00am with a survey of the clubrooms building to plan for future maintenance and upgrade issues. The committee meeting proper will be convened at 2:00pm for the routine attention to club business matters. All this will be followed by the swapmeet de-brief as mentioned above. January is a very quiet month for the Manawatu Branch, but our surrounding VCC neighbours have several activities from which to choose. I refer you to the various notices published in this issue.

One event of interest is the Wellington Branch’s annual “Monte Carlo” Rally. It is run to link up with Whanganui’s Vintage Weekend at Anniversary weekend and the Whanganui Branch’s Burma Rally. There is no set starting point. You are given a list of places between Wellington and Whanganui to visit, each place having been allocated a points value. The more places you visit the better your score. You start anywhere you like from the list and provide proof of your visit to each place. EG: a photo, or receipt for a purchase. Lunch is usually in Woodville The event is very popular and great fun. Details from Neal Ryder, Wellington Club Captain, or Rally Secretary Diane White. Gary Millar has had a spell in hospital for some surgery. I spoke to him the day after he arrived home and he sounded quite chipper and reported he was recovering well and comfortably. Get well soon Gary.

Reports: I have an apology to the Austin Car Club as I forgot to mention that they had a car run for the Daffodil Day. They had raised over $200.00 and gave the funds to our club, which I included with our money to the Cancer Society. It was SAD that we had to cancel the 20th October Sunday run as I did not have enough numbers. Which leads me to is there something else that we should be doing as a club that you as club members would like to see happen. Please contact me with any suggestions. Is there a get together that the ladies would like to have regularly like a coffee morning or afternoon tea? The Noggin & Natter is in Fielding at 7:30pm at Murray’s Irish Bar. All are welcome to come along for a social time. Sunday Teas on the 1st Sunday of the Month is at the club rooms at 5:00pm. Come and bring your own tea and socialise

Roster: Suppers for the Club Nights. If you are UNABLE to do the duty please contact Esther, The milk and biscuits are all taken care of. You just need to make tea and coffee and then do the dishes. 20th November Cliff Bennett and Steve Bright 18th December Peter Bidlake and Graeme Blummont

The Focal Point Cinema & Café in Feilding Have starting on Thursday November 14 the movie “FORD VS FERRARI”. It tells the story of Caroll Shelby and Ken Miles building the car for Ford to beat Ferraris at the 1966 Le Mans 24 hours. (Hopefully Bruce McLaren and Chris Amon will not be left out.)

Use the Arial font at 10 point and bear in mind the newsletter format is A5 with 1 cm borders. If you take photos with a cell phone, please don’t compose landscape scenes in portrait setting. ART DECO WEEKEND 2020 A SPECIAL INVITATION FROM HBVCC Come to Napier and join the HBVCC for Art Deco Weekend 2020 from February 20th -23rd. Kindly sponsored again this year by Euro City Ltd In 2020 the Featured Group will be an A-Z of Motor Vehicles. We are aiming to have a motor vehicle representing each letter of the alphabet. This may be a make or model. There will be a mixture of cars, commercials and motorcycles. Also we expect a mix of veterans, vintage and PV’s… manufactured in UK, Europe and USA. We currently have several cars coming in 2020 that have not been to ADW before. These include NZ’s second Duesenberg, our first L29 Cord, and a Stutz to name a few. We are still looking for a “Napier” vehicle to represent the letter “N”. I am also trying to find the owner of the Willys Knight roadster circa 1929-31 era that has the unusual paint design on the doors. We would also like to get leads on vehicles or vehicle models starting with letters Q, U, X, Y, Z. Please email any leads or ideas to stevetrott@xtra.co.nz asap. For 2020 the annual rally is again on Friday and we plan to have a touring run plus a picnic lunch at a great lunch venue. On Saturday we will have the morning tea and car show and popular choice at the HBVCC clubrooms, followed by the grand parade. Sunday events include a breakfast surprise at the HBVCC clubrooms and the Gatsby picnic in the afternoon. There are many other ADT events to choose from on Friday and Saturday nights. Come and join the other 180 plus club eligible vehicles we expect to enter the 2020 Event. Go to the HBVCC website for an Entry Form. (www.hbvcc.org.nz). Entry forms for 2020 are available now. Accommodation in Napier is already filling up for Art Deco Weekend so book now to avoid disappointment. We suggest you plan to arrive in Napier on Thursday 20th so you can attend the Dinner at the Clubrooms that evening. We have prizes for the best dressed couples again this year. Contacts:
