Club Captain’s Corner - Glyn Clements

LUB APTAIN S ORNER GLYN CLEMENTS

I’ve had the pleasure of attending Club Night at three of our neighbouring branches over the past couple of months, (Whanganui, Horowhenua and Hawkes Bay). They all have good numbers attending and what is noticeable is a large representation from the women folk at all of them. Our Branch had three ladies in attendance at the last Club Night, and that’s more than usual. So come on Gents, bring your wives along, it’s not just a “Blokes” Club for grumpy old men! You may find that with more involvement from your spouse that it may not be just “socks and undies” for Birthdays and Christmas! We need female involvement, and not just in the Kitchen making the tea, but in all facets of the Club. I know that three women are looking at standing for Committee at the next AGM - So, Watch This Space! Our Sunday Jaunts (1st Sunday of the month) will take a break over the next few months as other events take priority. 3rd December (Saturday) is our Christmas Run and Dinner (so no run the next day). 1st January - Len’s New Years Day Picnic. 6th February is Waitangi Weekend and there is an invitation to attend a Settlers Day Celebration in Kimbolton. March is Ruahine Ramble time and this will now be on Sunday 5th (not Saturday 4th as previously advertised). Coming up on Sunday 11 December, we have down on the calendar a picnic at Cross Hills. We will still have a picnic but not at Cross Hills. (We have done a lot of motoring up this way recently), so bring a picnic lunch and be at the Club Rooms for a cuppa at 10.30, then an 11.00 am start for a run in another direction. As this issue goes to print, Cath and I will have been at the Tararua Trundle in Levin (Sat 19th) and a Central Hawkes Bay run in Dannevirke (Sun 20th). We had 4 Manawatu cars join us at Levin and 2 at Dannevirke. Great to see Viv and Owen Reid take “Line Honours” in Levin - 1st Vintage, 1st Ford, 1st Overall. I wish a lot more of our Manawatu Members took advantage of the events our close neighbours put on, and it would be nice to support them as much as they support our events. I know New Year's Day is “Len’s Run” , but if anyone is interested in a 3-day trip, taking in the Gumboot Rally in Taihape then give me a call. Lots of gravel, lots of dust, lots of great company! The Central Hawkes Bay crews will be arriving at our place in Kimbolton for a picnic lunch on 31st Dec and we put a run on for them in the afternoon to Taihape. Gumboot Rally on New Years Day, and a long way home on the 2nd. No matter where you are over the Christmas/New Year period, please go safe, we want to see you all next year. Best wishes to You All
