In the past year much discussion has taken place over a new factor in search engine rankings called LSI. Simply, LSI is another calculation that search engines, in particular Google, uses to determine the keyword relevance of your content, and whether your content should rank for any particular keyword search. Here's an example... Previously, a factor called Keyword Density was important. Google used to judge how well your page was targeting a particular keyword by calculating how often that keyword appeared on your page relative to the total words on the page. With spammers trying to keyword stuff, and take advantage of the algorithm, Google in typical fashion made the algorithm more complicated by taking out keyword density and introducing LSI. LSI (Latent Semantic Indexing) means that for Google to think that a page is keyword targeted to keyword X, the content of the page not only has to mention keyword X but also other keywords that are deemed by Google to be related to those keywords based on their LSI algorithm. This is a pain for search marketers because as usual, we don't know what keywords Google deems to be keyword relevant to any other keyword. Or do we? Here's a simple way you can find out what OTHER words you need to make appear on any page, to ensure that it is LSI relevant and ranks highly for your X keyword. Say you're targeting the keyword "Blog Marketing". You go to google.com and do a search for the keyword blog marketing. You check out what URL appears as number one for this keyword. After all, copying what this site is doing in any area is a GOOD idea since it already has the ranking you want. Now you copy the URL to your clipboard with Ctrl + C.

Next, you go to this URL, the Google Adwords Keyword Tool... https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal In the column on the left, you change the radio button from selecting "descriptive words or phrases" to selecting "Website Content" Now a URL field will appear in the middle column. Into that Column you paste the URL you just copied from Google, fill in the captcha and hit "get keyword ideas" What you're asking Google to do here is: "What keywords are related to this URL?" And why is that important? Because that URL ranks number one for Blog Marketing. So what you're really asking Google is... "What Keywords Are Relevant To The Site That Is Ranking Highest For Blog Marketing", or "What Keywords Are LSI Relevant To The Keyword Blog Marketing". Do you see how cool that is? Google will actually TELL you the right keywords to make appear in your blog content. In the results that appear you can copy the top ones, the most relevant ones, and when you're writing your post about Blog Marketing, you can make sure a few of those LSI relevant keywords appear in your post content! By doing this you'll be giving yourself the best chance at maximum search engine rankings for all the content you produce on your blog.
