By choosing to rent a venue with the Vineyard Preservation Trust, you’re not only creating a memorable event—you’re also helping preserve these iconic buildings for the community to enjoy for generations to come.

Overview The Grange Hall, located in the heart of historic West Tisbury Village was the site of the Agricultural Society for over 100 years. Today it is used as a community space for rent for private and public events, including community events, fundraisers, festivals, wedding, and receptions.

We offer a “space rental” only, giving you the flexibility to select your own vendors. Our list of preferred vendors includes experienced caterers, florists, photographers, party rental companies, and more. Your vendors will provide all necessary equipment—including tents, tables, chairs, linens, china, glassware, flatware—as well as food, beverages, staff, and décor.

The rental includes: First Floor Access: Includes front porch, entrance foyer, Main Hall, warming kitchen, restrooms, and adjacent grounds for parking Tables & Chairs: 7 (8') rectangular tables, 4 (30') black high-top tables, and 50 wooden folding chairs Note: Linens are suggested for the 8' tables For weddings: There are no guest rooms or overnight accommodations at the Grange Hall. There are no facilities for the bride and bridesmaids or groom and groomsmen to dress or otherwise prepare.

Capacity and Flow The first floor Main Hall is a versatile space, perfect for a seated dinner with dancing to follow or a standing cocktail-style reception. The front porch and foyer are also available, offering additional space for setup or guest flow.

Main Hall Capacity limits are: Standing 250 Chairs only 200 Tables and Chairs (plus room for dancing) 150 Tents outside are not permitted that increase the capacity of the Grange Hall.

Cook or kitchen tents are permitted as requested by the caterer and are for the caterer’s use only. The cost of catering tent rental is not included in our fee.

Theater: 2nd floor The upstairs theater is home to Circuit Arts, a local arts and cultural organization. As they host their own programming, the space is available for private rental on a limited basis during the season.

Theater Capacity Limit is: 75 Seated (set up with couches, chairs) The Main Hall and Upstairs Theater can be rented together. Please contact us for full details.

Accessibility The Grange Hall is fully accessible with ramps at front and back doors. Three restrooms are handicap and wheelchair accessible. There is a lift for access to the second floor Upstairs Theater.

Timing Reservations are for day-of use only. You may have access starting at 8:00 AM Early drop-off (day prior) may be accommodated if the schedule allows The service of liquor and the music both must end promptly at 9:00 PM. Guests shall depart the property by 9:30 PM, allowing the final 30 minutes for the caterer to complete clean-up and vacate by 10:00 PM Wedding receptions are typically 5-hours long.

All personal items must be removed at the end of the event on the date of use.

From Memorial Day to Columbus Day, all rental items must be removed from the Grange Hall at the end of the event on the date of Use. You may be subject to additional charges by the rental company for same day rental removal.

Music Guidelines To ensure an enjoyable experience for your guests while respecting the historic character of the Grange Hall and our residential neighbors, please follow the guidelines below when planning music for your event: Approved Musicians We provide a list of preferred musicians who are experienced with the space and its acoustics. If you wish to bring in a band or musician not on our list, they must be approved in advance by Vineyard Preservation Trust.

Sound & Volume All music must end by 9:00 p.m. without exception.

Sound levels must remain under 102 decibels. We reserve the right to ask musicians to lower the volume at any time.

Music Styles & Restrictions DJs and amplified digital music devices are not allowed. Our approved bands are professional and can accommodate a wide range of musical tastes. Please note that loud, electric guitar-driven genres such as heavy metal or hard rock are not suited to the venue’s acoustics.

Restroom Facilities Four restroom facilities accommodate up to 250 guests.

Port-o-potties are required for events on the grounds that have over 250 guests Refuse removal The Trust arranges and covers the cost of refuse removal for all events Open Flames No sparklers (including cold sparklers) or open flames.

Battery operated candles only Food and Beverage Service Caterer choice: You may select from our recommended vendors or choose another caterer Requirements: Caterers must be licensed and insured Health coordination: Caterers must communicate directly with the Town of Edgartown Board of Health Agent

The kitchen is a well-equipped warming kitchen, featuring a six-burner gas stove with convection oven, commercial dishwasher, double-door reach-in refrigerator, and ice cream freezer.

All food must be prepared off-site in a licensed commercial kitchen The caterer may need additional space and equipment. Kitchen tents can be installed at the rear of the house, Beverage Service Liquor License: Required for all public events and must be obtained from the Town of West Tisbury. Requirements can be complex—please contact the Town Administrator with any questions. (Private events, such as weddings and private parties, do not require a license.)

Alcohol Supply: Hosts provide their own alcohol (beer and wine only). We recommend working with a local package store that can deliver and pick up unopened bottles so you only pay for what you use.

Service Requirements: All beverages must be served by a certified bartender via open bar only (no cash bars or self-service).

End Time: Alcohol service concludes promptly at 9:00 PM Clean-Up: All open bottles must be removed at the end of the event Temperature Control The interior of the Grange Hall is equipped with heating but not airconditioning. The Main Hall is equipped with ceiling fans and gentle crossbreezes keep the space quite comfortable in the summer months.

Parking There is ample parking at the Grange Hall for your guests and vendors.

Logistics and Staffing We will coordinate all vendor access for deliveries and the removal of rental equipment, leftover liquor, and any other items following the event.

A member of our staff will be on-site throughout your event—during setup, the event itself, and cleanup—acting as property manager. We ensure that vendors have everything they need, uphold event policies, and work behind the scenes.

Event Permit Public Events require a ‘Special Event Permit’ from the Town of West Tisbury. You will need to complete the application at least 30 days before your event.

The Booking Process: To secure your event, the rental fee is due at the time of contract signing.

Payment by check is preferred In the event of a cancellation, written notice is required. A refund may be issued if the event date is rebooked for an equal or higher rental fee.

For most events, a security deposit of 25% of the rental fee is due one month prior to the event. The deposit is fully refundable after the event, pending inspection of the property.

Event insurance is mandatory for all events held at our properties. You can easily obtain a one-day policy through an online provider or insurance agency. Some homeowners' insurance policies may include this coverage, so please check with your insurance agent to confirm.
