Comedy comes to Sevenoaks

Lucky reader scoops iPad

Walthamstow Hall ‘old girl’ Julia Streets (below) is returning to the school in June as part of the Sevenoaks Summer Festival for a one-night-only comedy show – featuring herself and Mrs Moneypenny, star of Channel 4’s SuperScrimpers. Julia told Vine: “This is BOGOF comedy. You get Mrs Moneypenny, who is a business woman, columnist for the weekend Financial Times and has performed a sell-out Edinburgh Fringe show which she took to Broadway. Then you also get me!” By day she is a successful businesswoman and by night, a comedian who draws on her day job for inspiration. The profits from the show go to the charity Children in Crisis, which Julia has supported for a long time. She said: “Education is so important and Children in Crisis raises money to enable children around the world to have access to an education.” Julia’s time at Walthamstow Hall enabled her to try a variety of activities and filled her with a love of drama, comedy and a desire to maintain creative passions. “It is so great to be able to bring the show to Sevenoaks, especially as I remember fundraising for the Ship Theatre which had not yet been built! I will definitely be including material on my time here in the show!” Julia and Mrs Moneypenny will be performing on June 30 at 8pm.

Shirley Shine from Otford was ecstatic after receiving a call from the Mobile Phone Centre to announce that she had won a new iPad. In our March 2011 edition, Vine teamed up with the Mobile Phone Centre, Sevenoaks, to give away the 16GB iPad. “I’ve never won anything in my life,” said Shirley, “apart from £10 on the lottery!” Initially she thought it was a hoax before realising that the call from MPC’s Phil Mitchenall was legitimate. “My husband and I both bought our smartphones from MPC and the service we received was outstanding; they are so helpful and willing to assist with all our questions.” Phil Mitchenall said: “We are delighted Shirley won the competition and as an added bonus she can take advantage of our current offer of £100 cashback for iPad users who take out an airtime contract with us.” n Visit for more information
