Orientation 2010 An Orientation programme was conducted for the new entrants along with their parents on 6th of September 2010. The dignitaries who graced the occasion were Sri Binod Dash, CMT, Synergy Group, Er. A.K. Sahu, Trustee, Dr. N.C. Pal, Director, Finance, SIET. Dr. A. Sarangi, Director Academic presided over the meeting. Prof. P.Mohapatra , Head ,Deptt. of Mechanical Engineering was the Chief Coordinator of the programme and shared the dais with the other dignitaries. Students were enlightened on the institutional facilities and prospects of all the departments. Sri Binod Dash, CMT, Synergy Group addressing the new All the dignitaries addressed the students. Some of the guardians and some senior students also spoke on the occasion. The programme was a grand success with the cooperation of the student members of the Rotaract club.

Engineers’ Day at Synergy On the auspicious occasion of the birthday of Sir. M.Visveswaraya, 43rd Engineers’ Day was celebrated in our institute on 18th September 2010. The day was marked by a students’ seminar on “Impending Paradigm shift in Engineering Science and its challenges”. In the inauguration meeting the dais was adorned by Dr. A. Sarangi ,Director Academic, Dr. S.S. Hota Principal, Mr. M.P. Sahoo,CoVice-President,Cultural Committee. The chief guest, Prof. Mrinal Chaterjee,Director, IIMC, Dhenkanal,who graced the event as the chief guest, is a versatile personality. He gave an inspiring speech on implementation of technology in an eco-friendly and effective manner. The programme had two sections. In the first session all the members on the dais addressed the audience. The key address on the topic was effectively delivered by Dr. A. Sarangi.Director Acdemic. In the second Dr. Mrinal Chaterjee, Director , IIMC, Dr. A.Sarangi, session, a detailed talk was presented by Mr. Director(Aca), Dr. S.S.Hota, Principal & Mr. M.P.Sahoo, Amit Bikram, 7th sem, Electrical Engg. and Ms. Co-VP, Cultural in the inaugural function. Pragyan Ipsita Devi 5th sem , Mechanical(both students of the institute) . The chairperson for second session was Dr. Ramakanta Panigrahi. Professor, Civil Engineering Deptt. The vote of thanks was given by Mr. M.P. Sahoo, Co- Vice president, Cultural. The day was truly dedicated to the master of Science and Engineering, Sri M. Visveswaraya.

Industry-Institute Interaction...... M.O.U between Synergy Group of Institutions & Bard Holding Inc. Synergy Group of Institutions signed an M.O.U with BARD Holding Inc., an alternative fuels company engaged in research, development and production .The mission behind this collaboration is to capitalize on the Global opportunities in the alternative energy market by producing a permanent renewable solution to the energy crisis with BARD’s proprietary algae technology.

Assumption of office Sri Binod Dash,CMT,Synergy Group of Institutions was elected Vice President of Utkal Chamber of Commerce & Industry(UCCI).

Chairman’s Europe Visit As part of his Europe tour, Sri Binod Dash,CMT,Synergy Group paid a visit to Switzerland, Paris & Germany. In Germany he visited K2010-the biggest international trade fair for Plastics & Rubber which takes place once every three years. Continuing for more than 40 years, the exhibition had the leading raw material producers, processing companies and machinery manufacturers offering an overview of the latest technical developments, procedures and techniques of current construction methods and future trends.The exhibition which had more than 3,100 exhibitors from over 50 nations, witnessed the arrival of more than 242,000 trade visitors from 100 countries.

Career Oriented Industrial Automation Training Course A training programme was conducted for the final year students of Electrical Engineering and Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering on Career Oriented Industrial Automation on 15th September 2010. Er. Amiya Ranjan Nayak of the Prolific System & Technology, Bhubaneswar delivered the lecture on the above topic and interacted with the students. Faculty members from both the departments attended the programme.

Research & Development Faculty Honour Dr. C. R. Deo, Deptt. of Mechanical Engineering was awarded with a Ph. D degree from N.I.T,Rourkela on the thesis titled, “Preparation & Characterisation of Polymer Matrix Composite using Natural Fibre LANTANA-CAMARA”.

Laurels Earned Outside • Prof.(Dr)S.S.Hota, Principal became a member of the Anti-Ragging Monitoring Cell of Biju Pattnaik University of Technology,Odisha. • Er.Shyma Sundar Panda, Deptt. of Electrical Engineering authored a book titled Basic Electrical Engineering, published by New Age Publications,Cuttack.

Dignitary Visits On 19th November 2010 Sri Rajib Dixit, Rastriya Prabakta,Bharat Swabhimaan Andolan,visited our institute & enlightened the faculties with an inspiring speech. Later he took part in a plantation drive inside the institute premises.

Infosys Campus Connect Programme With a view to producing industry-ready students for better employability,Infosys Campus Connect Soft Skills programme was launched in the institute for the 2nd year students.In all 180 students had registered for the programme in 3 batches.All the modules of the programme such as Business Communication Skills, Intrapersonal & Interpersonal Relationship Skills,Campus to Company,Group Discussions,Interviews & Presentations & Entrepreneurial Skills Development had been prepared along the lines of requirement of the corporate sector.

As part of the Infosys Campus Connect Programme Three Hundred students were taken to Infosys Technologies Ltd.,Bhubaneswar on 30th October 2010 for a one-day visit. As part of the SPARK Programme students got an opportunity to understand the relevance of IT in business & learn about the career opportunities available at Infosys

Formation of The Red Ribbon Club Under the patronage of INDIAN RED CROSS SOCIETY, Youth Red Cross,Orissa State Branch took the initiative to form a Red Ribbon Club in our institute to create awareness on HIV/AIDS.Prof. (Dr) R.K.Panigrahi, Deptt. of Civil Engineering is in charge of the club and acts as the Counsellor.

Blood Donation Camp For the second time in this year a blood donation camp was organized in the institute on 30th October 2010 by the Red Ribbon Club of the institute with the collaboration of Cuttack & Dhenkanal Blood Bank where 178 units of blood were collected. The blood donation camp was highly successful with the cooperation of the NCC & NSS volunteers Er.A.Sahu, Trustee, Dr. A.Sarangi, Director(A) & of our college.

Various intramural competitions in Football, Basketball, Cricket & Volleyball were held in our institute. The football team of our institute participated in the District Inter Club Football Tournament, organized by District Athletic Association, Dhenkanal.Pratik Mohapatra,3rd sem,ME was awarded as Best Goal Keeper for his excellent performance.

NCC (Army) wing senior Under Officer Barsha.P. Pradhan (II Yr IT) has been adjudged the “Best Cadet in Individual Drill competiton “ during the Personality Development Training Camp conducted by 1(MP) Composite Technical Company NCC, at Gwalior between 21st September 2010 & 1st October 2010.


Students’ Spotlight... 2+2 Ist Program (M.O.U between Synergy & Pennstate University) Synergy entered into a collaboration with PennState University,Pennsylvania,USA for 2+2 IST Programme at Pennsylvania. Established in 1855,PennState University is now one of the ten largest public universities in USA with a total student enrollment of over 84000 in 24 campuses. As an IST graduate, a student will be able to study the first 2 years of B.Tech at Synergy and the next 2 years at PennState.Estimated Current Tuition & other Cost of the Programme: For Year 1: Tuition US $ 18,420 Room & Meals $ 8,300.00 Books $ 1,900.00 —————————————————————————— Total: $ 28,620.00 aprox. Registered as B.Tech from B.P.U.T Enroll in Penn State courses (IST and General Education) during first two years at Synergy Pass 2 years in B Tech with 50/100 scale results. To clear TOEFL online test with 78 in Internet based TOEFL score. (A student has to register minimum 4 weeks before to appear the test and 2 weeks required for publication of result .Usually result valid for 2 years) 5. Online registration to be done by the students to study at Penn State under the guidance of SIET. 6. The successful students get 1-20 (student permit provided by Penn State) based on which VISA application to be submitted by the students to nearest US Consulate. 7. Obituary The 24th October 2010, a Dushera Puja holiday for the institute, was the darkest day for our institute on which we lost four of our 2nd year B.Tech students Pranab Pradhan, Pinaki Parida, Amitav Rout and Jayant Nayak. They were swept away by the turbulent currents of the Mahanadi while they were on a trip to Bhattarika, a famous temple of Odisha.

We deeply condole their sad demise and pray for salvation of the departed souls. The institute expresses its deepest condolences to the bereaved families.
