Step 1: The limits od the area are optimized in a triangular shape to optain a regular plan and extrude it vertically. The sides of the prism are parallel to the roads that confine the area of the project.

A small museum in the center of L’Aquila | DIAGRAMS

Step 2: at the projection of Via Zara, a road perpendicular to the area, a breakthrough of the volume occurs. The breakthrough, defines two recessed spaces, that become the two main accesses to the building.

Step 3: Using the same language as Step 2, the shape keeps being sculpted by subtraction, indentifing more negative spaces, that will be used as light sources optimized for the needs of expostion rooms.

Step 4: Final result. The extruded elements on the roof top, as opposed to the subtracted spaces on the facades, define a central core, that organize the space and makes the functional scheme of the museum work.

Step 2: THE ADDICTIONS The two volumes obtained it step 2 get connected to create a whole building, which separates three different outdoor areas, and also create an urban continuity with the two residential buildings nearby

Step 2: THE PASS The volume gets pierced to create a passage that connects the three area previously defined (1,2,3) and create a promenade that finish in a natural landscape view of Roio mountain

Step 2: THE BREAK The continuity of the volume gets interrupted in a position where the ground height of the building meets the height of the street. The interruption also marks the entrance to a pedestrian path.
