Located in Calexico, a city with a hot desert climate, the art musuem had to take into account many factors in order to be sustainable and meet correct daylighting factors. Through the deisgn of splayed windows, the amount of light entering the space is controlled while blocking direct light and letting in diffused. Two walls surround a central skylight to light sculpture and provide a gathering space. Rammed earth walls give natural thickness necessary for the windows while providing thermal mass to dampen the extreme durnal swings.

COLLEGE PREPATORY HIGH SCHOOL | EXISTING SITE PLAN A private high school in the hills of Oakland called for a masterplan to be implemented over the next ten years in three phases. Using google maps, site visits, and plans I interpolated contours, then used this data to create a 3D model and build a physical model.

WILLOWS COMMUNITY SCHOOL | ELEVATIONS AND SECTIONS Utilized AutoCAD to create a series of sections and elevations from revised plans. Under a deadline, I drafted detailed drawings and responded quickly with revisions.

FORM TIES

ARCH 160 - CONSTRUCTION The in depth study of a detail: form work, created a deeper understanding of how the construction process leaves remnants behind - often unseen. In Wurster Hall the old form tie holes take on new uses as they display students work.

The design took an arrangement of squares and rotated them so that each line became a brace; by doing so the structure became more supported and would hold up for the final test taking a hundred and twenty pounds before breaking.

The exterior remains a box-like structure, but once inside the grid breaks down. Voronoi structures push and pull to form circulation paths and a large variety of spaces. Voronoi allows for a consistent language throughout the building but many different experiencial qualities for the different programmatic elements. Program is organized by location and proximities, as the building progesses vertically, the programs that relate physically share or mesh into one space.
