Due to the low birth ratio, norway is forced to import labour from other countries. Massive waves of immigration over the past 10 years caused a socially unsustainable situation where large groups of people from different cultural backgrounds naturally created communities. Because of their small size, these communities were not forced to adapt to the local culture.

how to achieve the desired goal by as less as possible? building on green field solves nothing. we have to start INSIDE of the city.

A lot of thought needs to be put into the way in which immigrants or people of lower economical classes are housed. There is no one way solution to this issue. The advantages and disadvantages of segregation as well as desegregation should be carefully balanced before taking decisions.

starting from the street: instead of simply increasing density, we propose rather the “creation of street” as the public life generator by spreading the city core to the suburbs. new functions increase decentralisation and walkability of an existing structure while keeping the existing pros

there could be several urban planned strategies: the ratio of central culture/office zone to housing zone is unsustainable. the “downtown” should spread, following the suburban sprawl. focus on young families when there is still time and money. the new housing should consider their needs as well as anticipate the economy depression. the housing design must consider the human lifecycle and allow different program focus on multicultural rather than traditional. then again, immigrants should adapt and be desired by majority to be productive and happy. treat them equally, but not avoiding the problem

Where to built?

the big deal is to combine the quality of current with the quality of street space sub urban private space.

Idea the intertwining of social classes is a possibility but only if the minority groups are accepted by the local community

form analysis -city center natural barriers

form analysis -suburbs natural barriers

Idea instead of creating collective houses, social housing companies could own a network of smaller buildings troughout the city in a quantity that is desired by the majority thus creating a better environment for multicultural cohabitation. In this way, minority groups are better exposed to the main culture and are therefore more likely to adapt
