How Do E-Cigarettes Work?
With all the negative images attached with cigarette smoking, someone decided to mechanize it. Yes, you read that right! Cigarettes are now mechanized with the invention of the e-cigarettes. So, what is an e-cigarette? It is a small, mechanical device that is made to replace the actual cigarette. The user is able to derive all the pleasure he or she could get from smoking the real one, but there is no second hand smoke or bad smell. Electronic cigarettes come in various designs, some are made to look like the real thing, and some are made to look way a lot different – stylish and fashionable. How does it look like? To understand how an e-cigarette works, you must first have an overview of how it looks like. E-cigarettes come in various styles. Some were made to look like real cigarettes while others were made to look like pens. They also have varying colors. There are four (4) major ecigarette styles available in the market today, namely: Pen-style, Cigar, Mini, and Pipe. Penstyle cigarettes, as the name suggest, look like pens. Some even include pocket clips. While, the resemblance may not be intentional, the filter cap containing the cartridge looks like a pen’s cap. Cigar-style looks exactly like the real thing, including the brand designs. There are varying sizes for Cigar style electronic cigarettes, they have varying lengths and diameters. Some are as big as the Cuban cigarettes. Mini stands for “mini electronic cigarette” as the name suggests, this e-cigarette is a lot smaller than the rest of the styles. Pipe-style e-cigarettes look like pipe cigarettes. This particular style has different mechanical structure compared to the three styles, just mentioned.
How does it work?
An electronic cigarette has six basic parts, namely: nicotine container, cartridge, atomizer, stainless-steel shell, built-in lithium battery, and light emitting diode (LED). The LED is located at the tip of the e-cigarette and is attached to the battery contained inside the stainless-steel shell. The shell is attached to the atomizer which is connected to the cartridge which contains the nicotine container. An electronic cigarette also has a pressure sensitive switch which turns on the whole “stick” when the user draws air from the nicotine container. Once the user draws in some air the switched is activated triggering the atomizer to heat up vaporizing the flavored water contained in it, it also triggers the LED to light up. When the user draws in the vapor, it passes through the nicotine container into the user’s mouth. The vapor puffs out of the user’s nostrils just like the smoke from a real cigarette.
