The Christmas Tree and Town Lighting Ceremony; opening of an ice-skating rink in Town Hall Square

This traditional event is enjoyed by all citizens and guests of Vilnius, and symbolizes the beginning of winter holidays. Lighting up the main Vilnius’ Christmas Tree at Cathedral Square, which is the Christmas Tree for all Lithuania will be followed by a spectacular audio-visual show “Sounds of the Sky”. At the same time, the holiday decorations in the city streets, Vilnius’ Christmas Tree in Town Hall Square and seasonal ice-skating rink will be lighted up.

International Christmas Charity Bazzar International Food Fair Town Hall Town Hall Square 30 November, 11:00 – 17:00 A traditional international charity fair where one can buy pieces of handwork, Christmas decorations, sweets or souvenirs created by spouses of foreign ambassadors residing in Lithuania, embassy employees, and representatives of public organizations.

1 December – 7 January A cozy Christmas Train driven by elves will be servicing children, their parents and city guests along the route Town Hall Square – Didžioji Street – Pilies Street – Cathedral Square – Gedimino Avenue.

During the Holiday Season, the wall of the side facade of the Cathedral is to become a screen for a wonderful Christmas Tale. In the 3D Christmas fairytale animation the fragments of Vilnius history are to intertwine with folklore, Christmas theme and modern motives.

Impressive festive fireworks will cheer up local people and city guests who will traditionally gather at the Christmas Tree in Cathedral Square to ring in the New Year.

5 – 29 December Crowds of visitors are expected in the central square in Vilnius, where they will find special works of ceramics, glass and jewellery, special Christmas delicacies and Christmas presents.

Procession of the Three Kings

6 January, 16:30 Traditional parade of the Three Wise Men – Gaspar, Melchior and Balthazar – as well as other Biblical figures from the Gates of Dawn to culminate at Cathedral Square with traditional performance. The participants of the royal procession will wish to the city fertile and successful year and place their gifts in the Crib installed in Cathedral Square.

“Farewell, Christmas Tree”

It is a tradition to light a 6 km-long garland on Vilnius TV Tower – the tallest Christmas Tree in Lithuania – on Christmas Day. The start of the lighting is going to be marked by festive fireworks.

Merry holiday event for the whole family – various games, performances, blessing by the Three Wise Men and farewell to Christmas Trees and holiday season.
