Billingshurst Parish Council Billingshurst Community & Conference Centre Roman Way, Billingshurst, RH14 9QW

Neighbourhood Warden Scheme The Parish Council would like to thank all those residents and groups who let us have their views on plans to set up a Neighbourhood Warden scheme in Billingshurst. Although organised and employed by Horsham District Council, the Wardens will be tasked through a steering group including the Parish Council, and be based in the parish. Largely funded by the Parish Council for the first two years, the scheme won the support of Parish Councillors at their annual budget-setting meeting on 24th January, by 7 votes in favour and 4 against, with one abstention. The consultation itself resulted in 117 respondents in favour, 27 against and one undecided. This decision will mean that the portion a typical Band D Council Tax payer will pay to the Parish Council will increase from £67.72 to £86.04 from 1st April 2018 (27.06%). This follows a reduction in 2017-2018 of 11.62%.

Billingshurst Community Speedwatch – An Update The Speedwatch group recently held a very productive meeting. Billingshurst Parish Council and Horsham District Council has committed funding to the scheme and a number of roadside locations have been agreed and approved by Sussex Police. The Parish Council frequently receives complaints from local residents about speeding, so please support the group of committed and dedicated volunteers by giving them a thumbs up if you see them! For more info, visit www.communityspeedwatch.co.uk .

Bird Nesting Season Did you know that wild birds are protected by law? This is particularly important during the bird nesting season which typically lasts from early spring until late July. Hedge cutting, vegetation clearance and tree work activities can have a devastating effect on the nesting sites of wild birds. If you intend to carry out works at your property, please be mindful that birds may be nesting. If you require further advice as to what is and isn’t permitted during this time, please read the Wildlife & Countryside Act or contact the RSPB for advice.

A29 – Garage meeting in March Proposals to develop a new petrol filling station on land adjacent to Newbridge Road and the A29 in Billingshurst will be presented to Parish Councillors on Wednesday 7 March at 7pm at the Billingshurst Centre. Consultants appointed by developers have conducted initial door to door surveying of local residents close to the site and are keen to share this feedback with the Parish Council, and receive any comments and questions Councillors may have. Residents are also encouraged to come along and listen and to have their say.
