Englewood Mayor Pro Tem Jim Woodward joins Twin Dragon restaurant owner Shiou Yun Wang and her son, Englewood City Councilman Joe Jefferson, at the Twin Dragon’s 35th anniversary celebration on July 27. Jefferson calls Wang, who received Englewood’s Lifetime Business Achievement Award earlier this year, the American Dream incarnate. After her family fled communist China in the late 1940s, Wang was born in present-day North Korea. While still an infant, her family fled communism again before Wang eventually immigrated to the United States and studied English at the University of Denver. After six months of paying the bills by working at the nearby Twin Dragon, Wang bought the then-tiny restaurant in 1977. Today, the since-relocated and much larger eatery at 3021 S. Broadway is among metro Denver’s destination Chinese restaurants. Photo by Peter Jones
