Gastrointestinal endoscopy procedures are the most common procedure. The department addresses the dynamics and complexity of pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients needing surgical procedures 24 hours a day. The department is functionally segregated from other hospital units and is staffed and equipped with the necessary specialized equipment to meet the needs of those patients requiring surgery. The five areas of service that make up the Surgical Services Department are surgery, pre-operative holding area, postanesthesia care unit, special procedures room, and central sterile supply. Surgery has four operating suites. The types of surgery provided are General, Urological, Gynecological, Orthopedic, Plastic, Vascular, ENT, and Endoscopic. Located in Victorville, Desert Valley Hospital also offers more than 20 private rooms (at no additional charge), a six-bed Intensive Care Unit and a Step-Down Unit for patients who require a higher level of care than their regular acute-care setting.
