Maywood exploring park district control of Fred Hampton pool

Back in June, the village of Maywood’s Board of Trustees finally hammered out an agreement to turn over six parks to the Maywood Park District, as part of a refer-

endum that a majority of voters approved in 2006. Now that an agreement is in place that would hand over the remaining parks, the village is entertaining turning over responsibility for other recreational assets that it still controls — namely the Fred Hampton Aquatic Center and two multipurpose

buildings at 200 S. 5th Ave. and 1100 S. 11th Ave. According to a June memo drafted by the village’s law firm, Maywood Park District officials are requesting that the village allow the district to “manage, operate, maintain and use” the two buildings. District officials
