Triton midmanagers OK strike The workers were still negotiating with college as of Oct. 20 By MICHAEL ROMAIN Editor
More than 50 mid-managers at Triton College came a step closer to walking out after they voted overwhelmingly for their union to authorize a strike if negotiations with the college’s board and administration fall apart. The negotiations are currently in mediation. During a regular board meeting on Oct. 15, Kay Frey, the president of the MidManagement Association, said that 80 percent of the 53-person union — which represents 63 mid-managers, including health services directors, assistance finance directors and career services directors — voted in favor of the strike authorization. The mid-managers’ contract expired on June 30. Talks between the college’s three-person negotiating team and the union have been tense since August. The workers have staged at least three mass action protests. See TRITON STRIKE on page 3

The club, now the West Cook County Youth Club, is independent of Boys & Girls Clubs of America By MICHAEL ROMAIN Editor
After being closed for roughly three months over the summer, the Bellwood Boys & Girls Club of West Cook County
reopened as an independent club, but with a new mission. During a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Oct. 19, the building at 4000 St. Paul Ave. in Bellwood was officially christened the West Cook County Youth Club.
The newly independent club has technically been open since August, the result of a $150,000 grant secured by Senate Majority Leader Kimberly Lightford (4th) See YOUTH CLUB on page 9
