SPRINGFIELD — One of the few things unaffected by the coronavirus pandemic’s presence in Illinois has been recreational marijuana sales. The $47.6 million spent on the product in June was the highest single-month amount since recreational marijuana use became legal at the beginning of the year, and sales have increased each month since February even amid strict stay-at-home orders. On July 6, the Small Business Administration released a list of all businesses and nonprofits in the country that received at least $150,000 in Paycheck Protection Program loans. “There is great news for American small businesses across the program,” said SBA

Mid-Atlantic Regional Administrator Steve Bulger in a statement the agency released on July 6. “Twenty seven percent of the program’s reach went to low and moderateincome areas which reflects the population in these communities. The average loan size of about $100,000, demonstrates that the program is truly serving small of businesses.”

The data shows that around 385 businesses located in Proviso Township received PPP loans, but only two were listed as Blackowned and four were listed as Hispanicowned.
