Roughly 100 senior citizens who live in the Garden House Apartments, a senior living complex at 515 S. 2nd Ave. in Maywood, along with Maywood Mayor Edwenna Perkins, received the Johnson & Johnson vaccine on March 11 as part of the Cook County Department of Public Health’s pilot program to deploy mobile vaccination teams across suburban Cook County. During a press conference at the apartment complex on Thursday afternoon, Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle said the mobile vaccination program is the first of its kind in suburban Cook County and a “component of our equity-focused approach to vaccine distribution.” “We’re meeting residents right here where they are,” she said. The Mississippi Clarion Ledger reported on March 9 that a recent winter outage in Jackson, Miss. has resulted in residents having to “lug gallons from distribution sites to their homes just to flush the toilet.”
Residents have also found it difficult to shower or wash dishes because of the low water pressure and a citywide boil notice “has left thousands of people without immediate, safe drinking water.”‘ Jackson officials have said that the city’s water pressure is gradually being restored after a massive winter storm that hit the area three weeks ago. In the meantime, mayors in Proviso Township are stepping up to help those Jackson residents in need. Hillside Mayor Joe Tamburino said he collaborated with Broadview Mayor Katrina Thompson and other Proviso Township Municipal League Mayors to collect water
