Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle announced the formation of an Affordable Housing Task Force during a visit to Maywood on Feb. 20. Preckwinkle made the announcement during a formal groundbreaking ceremony for the $19.5 million, five-story apartment building at 800-820 S. 5th Ave. in Maywood. According to a statement released by Nick Mathiowdis, director of communications for the Housing Authority of Cook County, the task force will “be charged with establishing priorities and solutions to increase the supply of See TASK FORCE on page 5

As the Proviso East boys track and field team competed in the annual Greg Foster Invitational on Feb. 22 at Proviso West High School in Hillside, the invitational’s famous namesake stood among the crowd
of spectators. That he was standing there at all was a feat. Just five weeks after undergoing heart transplant surgery, Greg Foster, 61, is feeling his second wind. “This feels great,” Foster said at Saturday’s invitational. “I really didn’t
know what was going to happen. I thought I’d still be in the hospital. They told me I’d be there anywhere from a day to six months or longer, so I was surprised when they told me they had a heart for me.” On Jan. 19, Foster underwent emergency See GREG FOSTER on page 5
