A Starter Kit will be delivered to all Lake Macquarie homes between 4 June and 20 July 2018 to help you get started with the upcoming bin changes. It will include: * A kitchen food scraps bin * A supply of compostable bags to line the food scraps bin * New stickers for your green bin * Full service instructions, a waste services guide and collection calendar Delivery of Starter Kit Please leave your green bin out until 5pm on collection day so they can place new stickers on your bin when they deliver your Starter Kit. Your Starter Kit and service instructions will be delivered by 20 July. If they’re unable to deliver a Starter Kit to your property on your scheduled delivery date, they’ll leave a notification in your letterbox. After two attempts your Starter Kit can be collected from Council’s Adminstration Building at 126-138 Main Road, Speers Point between 8am-5pm. Compostable bags A supply of 150 compostable bags will be included in your Starter Kit, which

Extra bags can be collected free of charge at all Lake Mac Libraries, Council’s Administration Building, Landcare Resource Centre, Council Depot or at the Awaba Waste Management Facility. Compostable bags are also stocked at some retail outlets for a fee. What is the difference between compostable and biodgradeable bags? In order for a product to be called compostable, it must comply with an Australian Standard to ensure it breaks down completely in the compost process. These certified compostable bags are the only bags that will be accepted in your green waste bin. The use of plastic, degradable and biodegradable bags can damage the machinery used to sort and compost the food and garden waste and will contaminate the finished product. Shearers Mince and Potato Casserole

This is a traditional station cooking recipe that was often made for shearers: potatoes and cooked mince topped with mushrooms and a cheese sauce. It is very filling and nutritious. Serves: 6 › Preparation: 30 mins › Cook: 40 mins

Ingredients

5 medium potatoes 1 tablespoon olive oil 500 grams mince 1 onion chopped 1 tablespoon tomato sauce 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

Directions

Preheat oven to 180 degrees C. Grease a large casserole dish. Peel and cut potatoes into thin slices and place in a bowl of cold water. Heat the oil in a frying pan and add mince, onion, sauces, salt and pepper. Cook over a medium heat until the mince is browned. To make the cheese sauce: melt the butter in a medium saucepan. Add the flour, blend until smooth and gradually add the milk and stir until sauce thickens. Reduce the heat to low and stir in cheese. Season to taste and remove from heat. Line a casserole dish with half the drained potato slices. Pour in the mince mixture and top with mushrooms. Pour the cheese sauce over the mince mixture and top with remaining potatoes. Dot the potatoes with extra butter. Cook for 30-40 minutes till the top is browned and bubbling. Source: https://www.taste.com.au
