BIGUEÑO FARMERS RECEIVED FERTILIZERS AND DRYING NETS

As part of the continuous support of the City Government of Vigan to the City's Agriculture Sector, over 306 registered farmers from Eastern Barangays received drying net, urea fertilizer and complete fertilizer at Vigan Conservation Complex on January 28, 2022 wherein Former Mayor Eva Ma rie Singson-Medina, the Balikatan Ti Vigan Federated President personally represented Mayor Juan Carlo Medina in the said distribution. Joining her were Sangguniang Panlungsod Member Janina Medina-Fariñas, SPM Kisses Agdamag-Lim, SPM Ramil Arce, SPM Libong Arca and City Agriculture Officer Lito Forneas.

"The 1240 urea fertilizer bags, 1100 complete fertilizer bags and drying nets was purchased by the City Government of Vigan led by Mayor Juan Carlo Medina for our 878 registered farmers for the year 2021." Forneas said.

"The distribution of farm inputs were based on the farmer's land area," Forneas added.

Meanwhile, SPM Janina MedinaFariñas gratified the Bigueño Farmers for their boundless cooperation to the City Government of Vigan through its various activities and programs most especially in ensuring the food security in the city.

Furthermore, Former Mayor Eva Marie Singson-Medina gratified May or Carlo for continuing to prioritize the agricultural sector through the many programs and projects for farmers and fishermen in the city even after her term as mayor, ensuring that the programs she started under her term continue to benefit our Bigueño farmers and fishermen as well as their families.

The schedule the remaining clusters will be on January 31 and February 2, 2022.

AFFECTED FAMILIES ACQUIRES RELIEF ASSISTANCE FROM THE CGV

As the City Health Office records the increasing number of COVID-19 cases in the city after the Christmas and New Year Season, the City Government of Vigan immediately resumed in proving relief goods to the affected families under the critical zones at the various barangays of the City last January 26, 2022.

City Health Officer II Dr. Loida Ranches further reminded the public to practice the basic health protocols as well as to encouraged those unvaccinated to participate on the City’s campaign towardfs COVID-19 Inauculation.

Aside from the disinfection of streets and house facades, distribution of food packs with twenty-five kilos of rice, the City Government also provided vitamins and medicines to the affected individuals.

The identified areas are being strictly supervised by their Barangay Officials, Philippine National Police and the Vigan Emergency Response Team to ensure the proper implementation of the COVID-19 guidelines and protocols.

CGV HANDED NEW SERVICE VEHICLE TO THE VIGAN CITY EOD-K9 GROUP

As the City Government of Vigan continously strengthen the City’s Public Safety, last January 5, 2022 Vigan City Mayor Juan Carlo Medina together with City G eneral Services Officer Kenneth Victa formally handed the newly purchased Service Vehicle for the City’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal and Canine Group (EOD-K9) Group.

“We are very grateful for the constant support of the City Government of Vigan through Mayor Juan Carlo Medina to the Vigan City Philippine National Police because this equipment will further improve our service to maintain peace and order for the Bigueños” Plt. Col David Dulnuan said.

Meanwhile, the blessing of the vehicle was done before the turn-over ceremony in which PNP-SWAT Vigan and the City employees witnessed the event.

The EOD-K9 Group is mandated to ensure the safe disposal of all bombs and neutralization of hazards from conventional unexploded ordnance (UXO); chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear (CBRN) and associated materials; and improvised explosive device (lED) that create a threat to public safety, installations and utilities as well as to police operations, personnel and/or material.

CSWDO DELIVERS VITAMINS TO BIGUENO SENIOR CITIZENS

The City Government of Vigan led by Mayor Juan Carlo Medina together with the City Social Welfare and Development Office and the City's Office of Senior Citizen Affairs started the distribution of Vitamin C to over 7395 registered Bigueño Senior Citizens in the 39 Barangays of the city last January 23, 2022 wherein Vigan City Mayor Juan Carlo Medina together with CSWDO Ma. Celerina Agcamaran handed the said vitamins to the various Senior Citizen Presidents of the city.

Today, City's Senior Citizens Focal Person Gerwin Alarca personally visited the Senior Citizen Bigueños at their homes.

"The distribution of Vitamins, is a yearly activity of the City Government of Vigan. In fact last 2019 we distributed vitamin B Complex while last year during the heights of the pandemic we made it through door to door for us to ensure UYNthe safety and health of our senior citizens. " Alarca said

TWO BIGUEÑO YOUTH RECEIVES CUCPD LIVELIHOOD ASSITANCE

In line with the Department of Interior and Local Government's Capacitating Urban Communities for Peace and Development (CUCPD) Program, two Bigueño youth received street food vending business through DILG Ilocos Sur Provincial Director Randy S. De la Rosa, CESE, City Local Government Operations Officer Aprille Guerrero, CSWDO Ma. Celerina Agcamaran and Vigan City Mayor Juan Carlo Medina at Vigan City Hall Lobby on January 11, 2022.

“I am very thankful for this livelihood assistance because this will help my studies and my family to sustain our daily needs.” Mr. Juwil Puzon, one of the beneficiaries said.

On the other hand, CSWDO Agcamaran said that their office will monitor the beneficiaries to ensure the sustainability of the program.

She also added the beneficiaries were identified and selected through a house to house validation by the CSWDO and the City Youth Focal Person.

The CUCPD program aims to provide capability assistance to the most vulnerable sectors to ensure their active participation to the society in pursuit of sustainable peace and prosperity to prevent insurgency and other armed conflicts.

CITY’S PROCURED 14,880 ASTRAZENECA VACCINES SUCCESSFULLY RECEIVED

As the City Government of Vigan strives to fasten its COVID-19 vaccination roll-out and immunization of every Bigueno, the City’s procured AstraZeneca vaccine through the Zuellig Pharmaceuticals successfully delivered and completed the 14,880 vials of AstraZeneca Vaccines which is equivalent to 178,560 doses to over 60,000 eligible Bigueno last January 10, 2022 at Vigan Culture and Trade Center.

Vigan City Mayor Juan Carlo Medina together with SPM Kristen Benedict Figuerres, City General Services Officer Kenneth Victa and City Health Officer II Dr. Loida Ranches and City Midwife Gretchen Aquino-Duran personally witnessed the arrival and checking of the vaccines.

“We’re very thankful that the City Government of Vigan led by Mayor Juan Carlo Medina really supported our COVID-19 vaccination Roll-out because of his initiatives to purchase our own vaccines really help us to combat the virus easier.” CHO II Ranches said.

Furthermore, CHO II Ranches said that the City’s vaccination team will intensify its campaign through bringing the vaccines within the barangays and different institutions of the City to ensure that everyone will be able to received immunization against COVID-19.

Due to the City’s exemplary implementation of its COVID-19 roll-out program, the City Government of Vigan is now preparing to start the National Government’s goal to inoculate those eligible 5-11 years old Biguenos.

PROVINCIAL GOVERNMENT COMMENDS

CITY NUTRITION PERSONNEL

Last January 6, 2022 the Provincial Government of Ilocos Sur through Philippine Councilor League -Ilocos Sur President Janina MedinaFariñas together with City Health Officer II Dr. Loida Ranches handed the Provincial Resolutions of Commendation to Ms. Mylene Amano and Mr. Jeno Josef Figuracion for being adjudged as the best Local Nutrition Program Coordinator of the Year and Local Nutrition Action Officer of the Year by the Regional Nutrition Evaluation Team.

The said resolutions were authored by PCL President - Ilocos Sur Farinas that aims to recognize the exemplary work and efforts of Ms. Amano and Mr. Figuracion in implementing the city’s various

programs and activities for nutrition that leads to the Vigan’s Consistent Regional Outstanding Winner on Nutrition in the Regional Level.

“We’re very grateful for this award that the Provincial Government of Ilocos Sur has given to us because this will further inspire us to work more for the benefit of the Biguenos.” City Health Nutrition Officer Jeno Josef Figuracion said.

Furthemore, SPM Janina MedinaFariñas congratulated them and assured that the City Government of Vigan will continue to support the City’s Nutrition programs and projects to assure the welfare and health of the Biguenos.

As immediate response of the City Government to the fire incident victims at Barangay IX, Vigan City last January 6, 2022 the City Social Welfare and Development Office through CSWDO Ma. Celerina Agcamaran provided hygiene kit, relief supplies and half-cavan of rice to the affected family.

Immediate assessment and interview were conducted by the CSWDO to ensure that the City Government will be able to provide the needs of the affected individuals.
