Budd joins China Dragon by Justin Soderberg The China Dragon of the Asian League Ice Hockey announced on Friday former UMass Lowell forward Michael Budd has signed on for the remainder of the 2013-14 season. Budd had been searching for a new team since opting not to return to the ESC Moskitos Essen in Germany this season. The China Dragon compete in the ALH which is based in East Asia, with seven teams from Japan, China, and South Korea. The Dragon have yet to win this season in twelve games and sit in dead last of the eight teams who compete in the ALH. Budd spent four seasons with the UMass Lowell River Hawks from 2008-

2012. The forward tallied 42 points on 20 goals and 22 assists in 123 career games for the River Hawks. His best season came during the 2010-11 season when he scored five goals and tallied eight assists for 13 points in 23 games. Budd served as the River Hawks’ assistant captain during his senior year of 2011-12. Following his time at UMass Lowell, Budd signed with the ESC Moskitos Essen in Germany and tallied 31 goals and 41 assists for 72 points over

33 games, plus three goals and four assists during his team’s five postseason games. The Burlington, Ontario native joins 22-year-old Rick Soo (Concord, Mass.) and 21-year-old Miles Beason (Edmonton, AB) as the only other North American player on the Dragon for the 2013-14 season.
