Calendar - Week at a Glance

The original “Old St. Nick” was Nicholas the Bishop of Myra in 4th-century Turkey. Not much is known about him. He became a committed Christ-follower at an early age. When his parents died, he gave all they had possessed to the poor around him. While serving as bishop, Nicholas learned of three girls who were about to be sold into slavery by their father. The situation was dire. Nicholas, moved to compassion, tossed three bags of gold through the family’s window, allowing the family to stay together. This season, let us not be consumed by consumption, but compassion. Be the difference in someone’s life for Christ’s sake. Shakespeare put it so well in The Merchant of Venice, “That light we see is burning in my hall. How far that little candle throws his beams! So shines a good deed in a naughty world.”
