A strategic location.

To the east of the Iberian Peninsula, to the south of France, to the north of Algeria and to the west of Corsica and Sardinia. Mallorca, Menorca, Ibiza and Formentera offer one of the most idyllic settings for boating in “mare nostrum”. This excellent location brought Phoenician and Roman traders to use them as a landfall for their ships in transit between Africa, Italy and Spain. Proof of this is given by the many wrecks, many of them still intact beneath the water: a cultural and artistic legacy that can be appreciated in the islands’ various museums.

WELL COMMUNICATED Nowadays, the Balearic Islands have fast, fluid communications, so you can reach the capital, Palma, in a few hours by air from the main European cities And then, go sailing!

SEAGOING TRADITION Traditional fishing, which still continues on these islands, offers an idyllic picture contrasting with the pace of modern life, as if time were running at two different levels.

You have endless beaches and coves to choose from. PRESERVE THE ENVIRONMENT At most anchorages, good sailing practice is the only essential requirement, with three basic premises: preserving the natural environment; following the legal and safety rules, and respecting your neighbours at anchor.

No lover of the sea would swap the feeling of sleeping in a comfortable cabin, gently rocking in sheltered waters. On the Balearic Islands you have endless beaches of white sand and hidden coves, where anchoring becomes a pleasure after a wonderful day’s sailing. At some of these places you will have to use anchorage buoys that have been installed to preserve the posidonia prairies. These consist of an endemic seaweed, which is protected throughout our islands. An ocean of possibilities

THE CABRERA ARCHIPELAGO This lies 11 miles off the island of Mallorca (Colonia de Sant Jordi) and has a perfectly preserved ecosystem. It is a true paradise for sailors, with peculiar limestone islets, sandy beaches, small coves, important sea bird colonies, endemic species and a spectacular sea bed full of life. You need to apply for a permit from the park office for anchoring or diving.

Bathed in sun.

Each of the 4 islands, together with the Cabrera Archipelago National Park, enjoy exceptional weather all year round. Warm, busy summers and temperate, peaceful winters, with great calms, offer a boating scene that can be enjoyed at any time of year; always different, healthy and enjoyable.

Which regatta do you prefer?

At full sail.

Many international regattas and boating events take place on the islands, combining big sporting events with spectacular shows. On Mallorca, the Princess Sofía Trophy, the King’s Cup, the Admiral Count of Barcelona Trophy, the Superyacht Cup and the Palmavela are just examples of races and regattas with great international prestige. Menorca has its traditional King’s Cup for Classic Boats. And Ibiza and Formentera are not left behind, with their Salt Race and Sea Week.

www.acnauticosbaleares.com www.federacionbalearvela.org www.anade.info LEARN TO SAIL Sports sailing is also within the reach of enthusiasts of all ages, with sailing schools at many marinas. Light sailing, windsurfing, kite surfing and the many regattas organised by clubs mean sport, fun, competition or initiation into this exciting world of sailing.

Coming safely into harbour. The archipelago has many marinas and harbours, as well as sailing clubs, whose facilities are provided with many professional services that fully cover the needs of all sailors. There, you can experience the seaside atmosphere that so much attracts their members and visitors.

REFUEL, GET SUPPLIES‌ The marina facilities of these 4 islands mean that sailing can be safe, with sheltered harbours within a few miles of one another. This also makes it easier to refuel and get supplies, just as traders used to do thousands of years ago, at the beginning of commerce in the Mediterranean Sea.

A motor boat or a sailing boat? The Balearic Islands have the widest charter range in the Mediterranean. Here, you can choose different sized yachts and motor yachts. You decide the level of services you want to book. It doesn’t matter which city in Europe you come from. All you have to do is book your boat, catch a plane in the morning and get to the islands by lunchtime so you can have a siesta in your cabin and enjoy dinner at anchor in a wonderful, peaceful cove!

Let yourself go. You don’t need a boat to enjoy sailing in the Balearic Islands. You can opt to charter the boat that best meets your needs, and, if you like, you can even include the skipper and crew. That way, all you have to worry about is enjoying the sea, the exceptional coastal surroundings, the fine sand of the beaches and the warm, seafaring atmosphere of the ports.

SPECTACLE GUARANTEED If you prefer to stay floating on the surface, snorkelling is a very interesting option in very many places, and all you need are goggles and a breathing tube.

Deep calm. Few experiences can compare with breathing under the water, weightless and immersed in a silence broken only by the air supply in the regulator and bubbles rising to the surface. If the transparency of the water allows great visibility, the pleasure is complete. And this is the case around these islands, with their very beautiful undersea landscapes: protected plants and animals, surprising rock formations and caves with stalactites that are unique in the world.

Services everywhere. The boating industry on these islands is outstanding for the capacity of its facilities and its expert technicians. Because of this, many boating companies have a base on the Balearic Islands, and big leisure yachts from all over the world overwinter and have their repairs and maintenance carried out on Mallorca. These businesses can offer any service related to the sea: maintenance of modern and classic boats, painting, restoration, accessories, mechanical repairs, boat sale and hire, sails and upholstery, metalwork, electricity, electronics, refrigeration‌ And to do this they have the best adapted facilities and perfectly equipped boatyards, some of which have won awards as the best in the world at restoration. Their highly-qualified staff undergo constant training and have long experience from the large number of boat jobs carried out throughout the year.

BOATING CONSULTANTS The islands also have consultants specialising in all kinds of management services related to boating who are capable of dealing with any kind of procedure, whether it is administrative, commercial, legal, preventive or related to taxation, Customs or insurance assessments etc
