He founded the town of Chenoa in 1855 as an agricultural and commercial center for his business activities. Although Scott bought and sold over 45,000 acres of Illinois farm land, the development of his personal holdings of 5,000 acres in McLean and Livingston Counties was his main interest. Scott’s home was restored in 1983 by his great niece, Elizabeth Stevenson Ives, to its original condition. Groups are welcome.

Illinois State University

Illinois Wesleyan University

Founded in 1857, Illinois State University was the state’s first public university, and is one of the Midwest’s oldest institutions of higher education. It is a co-educational, residential university with an emphasis on the undergraduate program, offering more than 188 fields of undergraduate study across 34 academic departments. The Graduate School coordinates 39 masters, two specialist and eight doctoral programs. The 350-acre campus includes over 60 major buildings with state-of-the-art technology, and Watterson Towers is one of the most unique structures, as this residence hall is the tallest building between Chicago and St. Louis. Other major facilities include a Center for the Performing Arts, a 360-acre farm, Bone Student Center and Braden Auditorium, a University Planetarium, Redbird Arena and Hancock Stadium. From meeting facilities to cultural opportunities through the arts and excitement of numerous sporting events each year, ISU is a vital part of the Bloomington-Normal community.

Illinois Wesleyan, founded in 1850, is a highly selective, residential liberal arts university with an enrollment of approximately 2,100. The University consists of the College of Liberal Arts, with 17 academic departments; the College of Fine Arts that includes professional Schools of Art, Music, and Theatre; and, the School of Nursing. Wesleyan faculty members are active scholars who are devoted to undergraduate teaching and engage their students in research and scholarly activity. The beautiful 80-acre campus is a mix of traditional and modern facilities. Recent additions include, the state-of-the-art Ames Library, the Center for Natural Sciences and the Shirk Center for Athletics and Recreation, regarded as one of the finest athletic facilities in the country. The newest addition, the Minor Myers Jr. Welcome Center, is a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Green Building that is home to the Office of Admissions and the Hart Career Center. The Illinois Wesleyan Titans compete in NCAA Division III and have had more than 100 student-athletes named Academic All-American’s since 1970.

Heartland Community College

Lincoln College - Normal

Lincoln College - Normal, a private residential college, offers academic and vocational programs to nearly 600 students. Accredited by the North Central Association, Lincoln College offers Bachelor degrees in several fields as well as an accelerated degree program.
