Supernatural Grace to Reset –

“It’s Our Season”!

L

adies, we are well into 2018, and I hope you have SHIFTED with the “Supernatural Grace

to Reset”! Despite how things may look right now, it is important to recognize that you are in the right season. It’s also important to realize that seasons don’t last forever. Just as seasons change, so do circumstances. If somewhere along the way you’ve hit a roadblock; if you’ve failed at something you have attempted; don’t let it get you down or stop you. Instead, let the failure become your teacher. Learn from it and then keep on moving.

God has not created us to fail, and neither does He see us as a failure. He has begun a good work in us and “will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ” (Philippians 1:6).

Our part is to trust Him and not lean on our understanding (Proverbs 3:5). Don’t give up like some because times get hard or things don’t go your way. Trust the Lord to direct your steps; to get you through the rough spots of life and back on the road that leads to success and victory!

The Supernatural “Grace to Reset” has taken place! The worst is behind us, the best is here, and greater is ahead of us!

You’re right where God wants you for this time in your life.

How To Be A

GREAT WIFE! 7 Secrets That Will Have Your Husband Kissing The Ground You Walk On By: Mark Webb “Behind Every Successful Man Is A Great Woman!” ~ Author Unknown

1) Build Him Up As Your Protector. Do you believe in your husband? Do you make him feel strong by the words that you speak, or do you tear him down and make him feel weak? Do you follow his lead, or do you crack the whip and expect him to follow your every command?

Men always know whether or not their woman believes in him. Empower your husband and watch your own anxieties diminish. Hold onto his arm when you are out in public. Tell him that he makes you feel safe.

5) Be His Biggest Fan. If you want to bring out the best traits in your husband, give him encouragement. Everyone needs encouragement. Don’t let your husband go without a daily dose of positive words from you. People thrive on encouragement. If your husband doesn’t get it from you, he will seek it through long hours at work or by shooting the most deer. He will get praise one way or another. Don’t make your husband seek it through outside sources, because he didn’t get it from you.

2) Be Madly In Love With Him. Show your playful, goofy side. Be silly. Be his friend. Give him your best smile; like the one you would give to a traffic cop if you were on the verge of ge ing a speeding ticket. Forgive the errors of his past and be vulnerable again. Don’t walk the path of the living dead who believe that the honeymoon has to fade. The honeymoon is a mindset and can be maintained and grown with a sparkling a itude of love.

All people like to be appreciated and husbands become great husbands when their efforts are acknowledged. It is a common mistake to become a fault finder, but this only breaks a man’s spirit over time. Don’t take things for granted. It is easy to overlook the good that he does for you. Many wives harp on the things he doesn’t do when in fact he does so much. If your husband is a good provider; then acknowledge it. If he is more than a good provider; meaning he is thoughtful, fun, and romantic; then really pour on the appreciation. As long as your husband is performing at least in the range of 80% of your expectation, please let the occasional 20% slide.

4) Show Him Respect On And Off Stage. Most wives act right in public but get them home behind closed doors and Lord help them. Be slow to anger. Let your husband talk without interruption, criticism, or correction. Husbands o en get a bad rep as listeners, but wives can be just as bad.

6) Greet Him With Enthusiasm. I am routinely telling men to greet their wives first and to do so with enthusiasm. Wives, you can take your marriage to a greater level of fulfillment if you meet him with the same air of happiness. Let your face light up in such a manner that you convey that you are glad to see him. Make this a habit to do even if you’ve had a rough day. Never allow circumstances to dictate how you are going to love your spouse. Without enthusiasm, your marriage will be doomed to a level of mediocrity.

7) Be Interested In His Interests. I’ll never forget the day I came home to change into my Taekwondo uniform for practice and my wife was wearing a brand-new uniform and said, “I think I would like to go with you tonight.” She stayed with it for years and became three-time state champion two years in a row as she earned her black belt. We had the best time training and going to competitions together. What is your husband interested in? You don’t necessarily have to get your black belt, but you could at least learn the language of the things your husband is interested in; whatever it happens to be.

Cervical Cancer Awareness and Prevention

As a health care provider, one of the hardest things to do is inform a patient they have cancer. Cancer is a word people cringe at, and public perception of cancer is associated with emotional beliefs of fear, trauma, or death. However, what if your health care provider told you a certain type of cancer was preventable and could spare over 4,000 deaths each year? Would you take the necessary means to prevent it?

Cervical cancer is the second most common type of cancer in women, and one of the most preventable. This type of cancer affects the tissues of the cervix, which connects the uterus to the vagina. In the early stages, cervical cancer does not cause any symptoms. As the cancer spreads, later symptoms can include irregular vaginal bleeding, abnormal vaginal discharge, or painful intercourse (National Cervical Cancer Coalition, 2018).

Cervical cancer is more commonly diagnosed between the

ages of 35 and 55 years, rarely affecting women less than 20 years of age. In the United States (U.S.) over 13,000 women are diagnosed with cervical cancer each year (National Cervical Cancer Coalition, 2018). In Georgia there are 390 new cases of invasive cervical cancer diagnosed yearly, and 135 deaths each year are attributed to cervical cancer (Georgia Cancer Data Report, 2016).

The highest incidence of cervical cancer among Georgia females are in the East Central, South, and Southwest Public Health Districts (Georgia Cancer Data Report, 2016). According to the Georgia Department of Public Health (2018), the South District includes the cities of Adel, Ashburn, Quitman, Fitzgerald, Nashville, Lake Park, Statenville, Tifton, and Valdosta.

Researchers have identified several risk factors associated with cervical cancer. These risk factors include: certain strands of the human papillomavirus, high number of childbirths, tobacco use,-

family history of cervical cancer, and history of immune system disorders (Georgia Cancer Data Report, 2016). Infection or exposure to the human papillomavirus (HPV) is the most significant risk factor in cervical cancer cases. In fact, HPV is found in 99% of cervical cancers (National Cervical Cancer Coalition, 2018).

HPV is also the most common sexually transmitted virus in the U.S. Over 80% of women will be infected with HPV at some point in their life (National Cervical Cancer Coalition, 2018).

However, the majority of women infected with HPV do not develop cervical cancer, and 90% of HPV infections resolve on their own (National Cervical Cancer Coalition, 2018). There are over 100 different types of HPV stains, and types 16 and 18 are highly correlated with cervical cancer.

In 2006, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved the first preventative HPV vaccine. Gardasil protects against several types of HPVs linked to cervical cancer, including types 16 and 18. Results have shown the HPV vaccine is 97% effective in preventing cervical cancer, and 100% effective in preventing infection with HPV types 16 and 18 (National Cancer Institute, 2018).

Health care providers encourage patients to procure the HPV vaccine to prevent cervical cancer. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC, 2018) recommends HPV vaccinations be given to females between the ages of 9-26. The vaccine is routinely given in a 3 dose schedule, with the second dose 2 months after the initial dose and the third dose 6 months after the first vaccine. There is a newly recommended 2 dose schedule for girls 11-12 years of age, where the second vaccine is given 6-12 months after the first vaccine (Centers for Disease, 2018).

The HPV vaccine is not recommended for women over 26 years of age. While the vaccines are safe in people over 26, they do not provide much, if any, benefit. One reason is related to the immune response where younger people produce more antibodies to the vaccine than older clients. Another reason is the vaccine is not effective in treating established HPV infections. Clinical trials have shown that it offers little or no protection to women over 26 and that the best way to prevent cervical cancer in women over 26 is through routine screenings.

Since precancerous cervical cell changes are asymptomatic, health care providers also recommend regular screenings through

Papanicolaou (pap) tests. Pap tests can identify precancerous and cancerous cells of the cervix and can be done alone or in combination with an HPV test. Guidelines for cervical cancer screenings were updated in 2013, and new guidelines recommend women have their first pap at 21 years of age. Women between 21-29 years should have pap tests every three years, and women between 30-65 years can either have paps every 3 years or can opt to have a pap plus HPV screening every 5 years (Fowler, et al., 2017).

Women should take certain measures to ensure the most adequate results from their pap or HPV tests. First, do not schedule these exams on menstrual cycle days. If the menstrual cycle beings unexpectedly, women should reschedule their exam for a menstrual free day. Menstruation can cause the cells collected from the exam to be corrupted, leading to inadequate results.

Second, sexual intercourse should be avoided for 48 hours before the pap exam. Intercourse can cause inflammation to the cervix, which could skew results. Third, women should refrain from douching 2 days before the pap. Douching can flush out the cells laboratory technicians analyze for cancer. Last, women should not use vaginal creams, foams, films, tampons, or spermicides 2 days before the tests. Using these types of items can also skew or mask abnormal cells (American Society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology, 2018).

To recap, cervical cancer is one of the easiest cancers to avert with regular screening tests, immunizations, and follow-up.

Preventative measures include avoiding tobacco products, delaying the onset of first sexual intercourse, limiting the number of partners, engaging in early detection measures such as the pap and/or HPV tests, and getting the HPV vaccines. For uninsured women, government assistance programs are available through the Georgia Department of Public Health. These programs available at local health departments, assist with covering costs for pap tests and HPV vaccinations.

Don’t become a statistic in the Georgia Cancer Data report, take charge of your health. As one quote states, “It’s never too early or too late to work towards being the healthiest you". I like to remind my patients that preserving health is easier than curing the disease.

ashion, trends, and style are all interconnected, yet uniquely and intrinsically stand apart. “Fashion is defined as the prevailing style (as in dress) during a particular time.

Trends focus on a prevailing tendency or inclination, general movement, current style or preference. Style concentrates on a distinctive manner of expression, a particular manner or technique by which something is done, created, or performed” (Merriam-Webster Dictionary).

I am sure throughout some length of time in your life you have heard the phrase, “Come as you are,” as it pertains to attending church. This statement holds to be true, because the Savior Christ Jesus wants to meet you right where you are in your life.

To receive a true transformative life, you must come forth in an honest, unfiltered posture. However, when many think of the statement, “Come as you are,” it is automatically referenced towards garments. I believe that is where the misconception of fashion within the church originates.

Misconception defines as, “a view or opinion that is incorrect because it is based on faulty thinking or understanding” (Oxford Dictionary). Sad to say, most of the misconception of fashion within the church is largely amongst the women rather than men. As women, who are believers in Christ Jesus, I believe there should be a standard set in how we present ourselves and wear garments.

However, many women within the church do not believe in setting a standard and being set apart in the right way. To compare ourselves to another is unwise; however, many women are

guilty of this action. Some women derive their fashion choices based on various women within their church, gospel artists, models, and secular R&B artists.

Instead of obtaining originality of style with class, so many women have resorted to the complete opposite.

Romans 12:2 (NLT) states, “Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.”

Fashion is beautiful and admirable when tastefully adorned. The fashion designer Roberto Cavalli stated it best, “I think God is the most fantastic designer.”

As kingdom women, we should want to represent the Kingdom of God with the utmost way of excellence. We should not resort to wearing extremely tight, low cut, high slits, and revealing garments to be considered in style or on trend. However, there are many girls and women who resort to such styles and come to church week in and week out in the name of Christ Jesus. This is not God’s will concerning any girl or woman.

We should be setting an example for the world to follow. For Matthew 5:14 (NLT) states, “You are the light of the world - like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden.” Why are so many women and young girls within the church looking towards the world instead of The Word as their inspiration? There should be a reverential posture when entering any place of worship. I know many women R&B artists that get a lot of flak from the church for how they present themselves.

Moreover, the church fails to see the whole spectrum of one’s eye

view.

Many women R&B artists are doing their profession, which is to entertain. Their performance wear is just that for performance.

However, when many of them attend professional interviews or even church, they are dressed in excellence and class. They know the setting for which they are in, and they also know there is a time and place for everything.

Sad to say some of the women R&B artists dress with more dignity than some of the women gospel recording artists and the local church women who attend gatherings and services.

Change must take place for the better within the church amongst our young girls and women of the 21st-century church. If change is going to take place, there must first be a set uncompromising example. As stated above we are to be the light of the world. We as women should adhere to Luke 11:35 (AMP) which states, “Be careful, therefore, that the light that is in you is not darkness.”

Allow yourself to do a motive and intention check. For example, some women dress for church events with ill intent to compete with their fellow sister or to entice their fellow brother in Christ Jesus thinking they will obtain a husband. That is not the reflection of the spirit of Christ Jesus.

Most importantly make sure your heart is pure in the way you are presenting yourself and how others perceive you in the way that you dress. Your first impression should always be a good lasting impression. The French fashion designer Yves Saint Laurent stated these two statements well, “Without elegance of the heart, there is no elegance. Fashions fade, style is eternal.”

he idea of travel to most people is non-existent. With the reality of family, money, jobs, and health issues looming; these things tend to take precedence over our lives. Traveling in some ways is an underestimated goal that we deprive ourselves of.

For example, think of coming home from a long day at work and all that you want to do is take a shower, eat, and lay down. We all know how fulfilling a good night’s sleep could make us feel in the morning. Well, that is what traveling feels like!

Traveling not only teaches you things about diverse cultures and different types of cuisines that will entice your palate. Traveling also helps you to de-stress, clear your mind and open it up to new and creative things that you never knew existed.

Being a military wife, the time that my husband and I can share together is very limited. Between the kids, jobs, and life in general; our only real time to connect is during vacations. A simple moment of silence with the sound of the waves between us is sometimes all we need to decompress from the work week. It helps our bodies to relax and our minds to slow down and focus on nothing but us. Even when taking vacations with our little ones; Just seeing the excitement on their faces reminds us of why we do what we do! By allowing traveling to heal our mind, body, and relationship it has helped enrich my kid's perception of the world around them. It keeps us grounded; knowing that we are truly blessed. It has connected us more as a family; keeping us away from video games, cell phones, and other life distractions.

Take the Plunge and Buy a Home!

If you haven’t purchased a home, the mere thought may be overwhelming, especially for single women with a small support system. However, all you need is some knowledge and a plan to get started! Taking the right attitude toward the home-buying process can really reduce the stress and make the process a lot more enjoyable.

A few short tips to help make home buying a more pleasurable adventure: 1.

Know what you can afford before you start looking at properties. For a small minority of folks money may not be an issue, but for most of us it is. Find a mortgage lender at your trusted local bank or a mortgage company that you have a good rapport with since you will be working closely during the process. The lender will go over your finances with you considering your credit score, debts and income and give you an idea of what you can afford and how much your payments will be. It is still true that the better qualifications you have, the lower your interest rate will be. However, there are mortgages available for almost everyone; it's the interest rates or the down payments that vary. You will be issued a pre-approval letter in which you will share with your real estate agent. If you have a circumstance in which you need to get some debts paid off before you can buy, your lender will help guide you in this process. He or she will provide you with information and a to do list to increase your credit score if need be.

Find a Real Estate Agent that suits your needs. The agent is your advocate and will need to understand what you are looking for such as the area you are interested in purchasing in and price range. Make sure you obtain a Buyer’s Agent so that you have full representation as some agents will be representing the sellers and the listed properties.

You won’t have to see every house in a 60-mile radius. Stick close to the area and price range that you have determined, and don’t feel the need to look at an exorbitant amount of homes to find the right one. Getting off track is confusing and time consuming. Be open with your agent about what you’re looking for and stick to the homes that best suit your needs in your criteria. Ask yourself where do you want to live, and what is the best location for you and/or your family? Things to consider: Convenience for all family members, proximity to work and school, crime rate, local transportation and types of homes in the neighborhood (example: condos, townhomes, co-ops, new construction etc.).

Don’t let the commitment make you doubt your decision. Buying a house may be scary and your thoughts may wander into worst case scenarios. However, don’t let your fears get in the way of moving forward with an important move or you could miss out on your dream home and a great investment! When you’re contemplating buying a home, think about the broad range of benefits that owning a home can have such as a financial investment, tax write-off benefits, personalized private space, pride of ownership, security and accomplishment. Also, make sure you have an experienced real estate agent and loan officer to ensure you’re getting a home that is exactly right for you in every area. The lender and Real Estate Agent are your best advocates in the home buying process and are there to help guide you through each process and all the way to the closing table!

Thoughts from the desk of Sherri Wright: Let me begin by saying to all women, young ladies, and little girls; I celebrate you! I honor the Queens and Princesses you are.

As a disclaimer, I may identify issues that may not apply to every woman. My purpose and objective is to identify where one may be, so that change and healing can begin.

The gift of sisterhood is so rarely celebrated. We see it in every arena; be it at work, church, in our community, culturally, and even on social media. As I look around, I question why? Why can’t we as women celebrate the gift that we are to each other and even to the world? Why can’t we, genuinely display love for one another? Why can’t we, as well put together as we are, stand and say, “You can trust me”? Why can’t we say, we will stand strong when a sister is weak?

Is it the pain from our past, the pressure of the present, or the fears of the future? Is it the inward struggle of preserving SELF by looking out for "Me, Myself and I"? Could it be our own captivity of our past experiences of “who hurt, who disappointed, who left or ignored us"? Could it be our low self-worth or self-esteem and what we think about ourselves, that keep us from embracing the true gift of sisterhood.

I know at times I have struggled with this very same thing. I’ve had to ask myself and deal with one or more of those statements at some point in my life; while dealing with some women. As I’ve had my own personal struggles, God revealed to me that the “spirit of rejection” has caused a great divide in the Sisterhood. It is deceptive and if we as women are not careful, we will buy into that lying spirit.

Especially, when we have been hurt or abandoned, we stop trusting.

That spirit wants to alienate us to try to deal with life challenges alone so that we live frustrated, angry, and bitter. However, we never realize we pass that spirit on to our children and others who tolerate this behavior. As women, we must make up in our minds we don't want to live like this. I need God to help me and I need my sisters to embrace me and pray with me. For who better knows what a woman goes through other than another woman.

One of the things I had to deal with was me! I began to love who I was. That's not easy when the spirit of rejection has gotten a hold of your mind and heart. I began to look back on all the wonderful women that I have had the opportunity to meet and befriend at work, church, etc. Women who brought value and richness to this table called, "LIFE". Women who brought strength wisdom, knowledge, determination, endurance, patience, experience, and skills from all walks of life. Women who had spunk, tenacity, grit, and wouldn’t let me quit. Women with beauty in every shape, form and fashion who were nurturers, good listeners, fun-filled, culturally insightful, poised, educated, street smart, and mostly women of God. I’ve embraced that each of them including myself, are “fearfully and

wonderfully made.

On that note, the spirit of rejection has been exposed. In the Name of Jesus, we curse rejection from the root and send it back to the pit of hell where it belongs. I charge each of us to celebrate our sisters and the friends that we have found in each of them. Refuse to let the past and society tell you that we, "Women” of today, can’t be real true sisters/friends. We are going to trust each other!! We are going to stop bickering and backbiting one another! We are women of essence, virtue, value, and full of purpose! We will not find ourselves time wasters, leaky and needy, defensive, offended, untouchable, gossipers or garbage cans. Moreover, we will be ready to walk with and help bring solutions to any situation our sisters may face.

I admonish every woman to “stop going through battles alone”.

You have sisters who will not judge, who will walk you through life challenges, who will pray, fight(spiritually), cry and rejoice with you.

The bible says in Ecclesiastes 4:9-12 (GNT) ~ “Two are better off than one, because together they can work more effectively. If one of them falls down, the other can help him up. But if someone is alone and falls, it's just too bad, because there is no one to help him. If it is cold, two can sleep together and stay warm, but how can you keep warm by yourself? Two people can resist an attack that would defeat one person alone. A rope made of three cords is hard to break." Then Proverbs 27:17(ESV) says, “Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another.” Let’s become iron to one another. Let us join forces and become praying women who refuse to let the enemy win.

Today, I denounce the myths placed on women and openly say, “I AM A SISTER/FRIEND”! I commit to my sisters to stay true. I ask that you help me as I walk a road not easily walked especially alone. To the women who may say, “I can’t say that all women are my friends;" I say to you as the scripture says in Proverbs 18:24 (KJV), “A man that hath friends must show HIMSELF friendly.”

When you are forgo en, or neglected, or purposely set at naught and you do not sting and hurt with the insult or the oversight, but your heart is happy, and being counted worthy to suffer for Christ, that is dying to self.

When you are put down by the people and family you love. When they make you feel that you are nobody, and you can still love them and pray for them; that is dying to self.

When your good is evil spoken of, when your wishes are crossed, your advice disregarded, your opinions ridiculed, and you refuse to let anger rise in your heart, or even defend yourself, but you take it all in patient loving, silence; that is dying to self.

When you lovingly and patiently bear any disorder, and irregularity, any annoyance, when you can stand face to face with waste, folly, extravagance, spiritual insensitivity...and endure it as Jesus endured it; that is dying to self.

When you are content with any food, any offering, any raiment, any climate, any society, any solitude, any interruption, by the will of God; that is dying to self.

When you never care to refer to yourself in conversation, or to record your own good works, or itch a er commendation, when you can truly love to be unknown, that is dying to self.

When you can see your brother prosper and have his needs met and can honestly rejoice with him in Spirit and feel no envy nor question God, while your own needs are far greater and you are in desperate circumstances; that is dying to self.

When you can receive correction and reproof from one of less stature than yourself, and can humbly submit inwardly as well as outwardly, finding no rebellion or resentment rising up within your heart; that is dying to self.

Now, the Big Question is; Are You Dead Yet?
