Salmon Fishing Today about 145,000 salmon are caught in Norwegian rivers every year and there are many good rivers, spread out across the country. Generally, the best time for salmon fishing is from mid-July to mid-August, but this may vary locally. Today you will have the chance to enjoy this Norwegian adventure of salmon fishing ! The bus will pick you up in the harbor and after a 20 minute drive you will arrive at Vigeland Hovedgård. Vigeland Manor was built by Swiss Caspar Wild in 1847, then as part of Vigeland Bruk, at the time the biggest sawmill in the area. In 1894 the manor was bought by the English John C. Hawkshaw and for a long time the building was used as the summer retreat for Brits fishing for salmon under the waterfall. After WWII fishing ceased and the building was abandoned until restorations began in 1989. After a short brief about the place and the river, everyone gets dressed up in “vadebukser” (special fishing gear) and get ready for their adventure. You will get the possibility to learn how to do fly-fishing or regular fishing. When you are fishing, you are standing in the river, and you can feel the stream and power of the river. If you are lucky, you will also get a wild salmon on the hook!
