Lindesnes is the southernmost region in Norway and located only a 30 minute drive from Kristiansand. The first stop will be in Mandal and the “Vigeland House”, the childhood home of the artists Gustav and Emanuel Vigeland. Gustav Vigeland having produced the sculptures for the Vigeland Sculpture Park in Oslo. Their childhood home is typical of craftsmen’s houses in “old Mandal”, and a guided tour will give you a unique insight into the childhood and artistic development of the brothers. Continue to the Sjoelingstad Wollens Factory. In 1986 the idea of reopening the Sjoelingstad Woollens Factory as a “living museum factory” was launched. Machines and buildings were restored and today visitors can feel the spirit of days gone by still lingering in these buildings! Enjoy a guided visit to the factory and its museum before continuing to Lindesnes Lighthouse. Built in 1655, Lindesnes Lighthouse is Norway’s oldest lighthouse. It lies on the southernmost tip of the Norwegian mainland – 2,518 kilometers from the North Cape. The lighthouse has been designated a national lighthouse museum, and hosts various exhibitions relating to the development and history of lighthouses, maritime culture and so on. Enjoy a light lunch in the “Fyrgryta Restaurant” before departing for the drive to the coastal village Hoellen where you board a sightseeing boat for a scenic sailing through the beautiful “skjaergård”. See the historical sights and sample some fresh shrimp. Enjoy the spectacular sight of sailing past your ship on the way back in to the Kristiansand harbor.
